Madmanmcp Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 (edited) Hi Wilba, sorry but you have given us very little information here to answer your questions. There is a lot more to a computer than just the processor chip, the one you have listed is a 1.4Ghz I believe and is and older chip so it is not as fast as the current ones being produced. What games a computer can play is based on a number of other computer components, Video cards, video memory, RAM, Operating System and so on. And just a personal preference, if you want the best for playing "games", stay away from a Laptop. A desktop will do a better job. Laptops are built for portability, not games. Madmanmcp Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Wilba, I looked up the 900 series and didn't find many out there. What I found is that it was made about 4 years ago. I wouldn't spend more than $100 on a old Laptop like that. You can find plenty of newer models for $500 that will be faster and have more memory and better video for your games. Quote
wilba Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 (edited) GOSH THNX, BUT WHERE COULD U PULL A LAPTOP LIKE THAT FOR 100??? THATS SOOO CHEAP, Pentium 2s SELL 4 MORE DUDE SO WAT SORTA GAMES CAN THIS HANDLE??? Edited September 22, 2005 by Wilba Quote
Madmanmcp Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 SO WAT SORTA GAMES CAN THIS HANDLE???I am not much of a game person, I play an adventure (Myst, Riven) style game or two but little else. Maybe someone else will be able to help with this question. Your best bet would be to print out the specs you listed for us here and take it down to the software store. Pick up a game and turn the box on its side. The specs for the PC and OS are listed on the outside and you will be able to tell if the games you want will run on it. I'm a tech, I've been in the computer business over 25 years. Friends, neighbors, friends of friends bring me their old computers to fix or upgrade. When I tell them its best to just buy a new computer they give me their old one...and I tell them no thanks, its too much trouble to arrange disposal for it. I also get good prices on PC sales my company holds when they are getting rid the old computers they have replaced with newer ones. The main word in my statement is I...you may have difficulty, but you may not be looking in the right places. Quote

mitchell spear Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 hi i was wondering what is the equivalent to from a AMD 2.6 ghz 64 bit cpu to a pentium 4 do u know the answer?? please i need to know tomowa hi i was wondering what is the equivalent to from a AMD 2.6 ghz 64 bit cpu to a pentium 4 Well that's kinda a random question. If you're referring to the Athlon64, a 2.6GHz is roughly equivelent to a 4.0 GHZ Pentium. AMD also has the FX55, FX60 and Opteron processors that run at 2.6GHz and will match up with different (better) Intel processors. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Hello Wilba, The computer spec you listed is good for basic word processing, internet surfing. However, it will struggle to run XP (you need 512 ram to be happy) and it won't play any of the latest games as it does not have a 3D graphics card. With laptops being so cheap, I would not buy a 2nd hand laptop unless that was all I could afford. Mitchell spear Try this handy little link: http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/12/21/the...t_2/page14.html Its worth reading through it all and remembering that processors do vary depending on what they are being asked to do and what other hardware they are connected too. E.g. you can ruin a CPU rating by restricting memory or the graphics card etc Any more, just ask! JimE Quote
