stargait Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 Several months ago I signed up for e-mail accounts on 2 of my websites. One of the e-mail accounts is getting spam all the time and I have given the address to no one. The other one I am using for several things and I have never gotten spam sent to it. Any help as to why I get spam when I haven't given out the address? Thanks Linda Quote
Lisety Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 Is your email address posted on your website? If so you're probably going to get spam. Seems anymore like it's the price of doing business. Lise Quote
stargait Posted August 20, 2005 Author Posted August 20, 2005 Nope, I didn't even post it on my site...... Quote
cajunman4life Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 Is it an easy to guess address? Like webmaster@domain.ext or www@domain.ext? Quote
TCH-Rob Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 When you register a domain name, that name becomes public record. Once this happens, it is just a matter of time before spammers begin trying all of the possible combinations of email address for that domain. Give it time and the other one will start getting them too. Unfortunately it is a fact of Internet life. Quote
stevevan Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 When you register a domain name, that name becomes public record. Once this happens, it is just a matter of time before spammers begin trying all of the possible combinations of email address for that domain. You can also make your registration "private". That may help bide some time before the spammers start. Example...I've got one domain that has the registration "private" and another that isn't. The "private" one has gotten maybe 2 spam emails in the last year. Just keep in mind nothing is foolproof! As Rob said, they'll eventually get to you! Quote
