Guest mustansir_g Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 Hi guys. I've been reading aroudn your forums, and checking out a whole bunch of sites, and I have to say I loved the deal you guys are giving. Excellent bang for the buck! and I noticed that the forums are full of helpfull support from you guys! I've already ordered a hosting plan for myself so I these questions aren't really that big of a deal, but I'm curious. (yes I know that means that these questions are technically post sale! But I didn't know where to put them cause the transaction hasn't been completed yet ) 1) Email accounts. Can I create and share email accounts on this domain with others? I'm guessing it shouldn't matter as long as I take responsibility for what they do with that email. But just want to make sure here. 2) Hosting pictures for friends. Basically, here I want to know how strictly you hold that 'dont host other peoples websites rule'. If a friend were to request me to host some pictures of say his camping trip or baby. Or maybe a software program. Does that fall under fair usage of my bandwith? I'm guessing yes, but I want to double check. 3) Nudity. I know there have been some recent changes to your website's acceptable use policy, that states that you will determine if something is obscene on your sole discretion. Well, I want to get a better understanding of what I can expect the administrators to consider obscene. There is no mention of nudity or partial nudity. Or a joke image which is highly suggestive. I'm asking this because I may wish to host funny images that may contain some nudity or sexuality. Is that considered obscene? Thanks a lot guys! And get my order processed quick so that I can start hosting soon! Quote
Guest mustansir_G Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 9 views and no replies? Come on people! Answer any one of them! I'm not going to hold you to it with a gun unless you tell me its official policy. Also, another thing that I'd like to know is, supposing I forget every item in the acceptable use policy and by mistake violate one of the terms. Do I get any warning emails? or do I just get terminated *BAM*. ? Quote
TCH-Sales Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 Hah, just 9 views and you're already worried? Come on now! 1) Email accounts. Can I create and share email accounts on this domain with others? I'm guessing it shouldn't matter as long as I take responsibility for what they do with that email. But just want to make sure here.I'd be very careful about this. If it doesn't have to do with somebody or something that relates back to your site I wouldn't do it. Just because Aunt Sally is stuck at hotmail, doesn't mean we need to rescue her. One or two pictures might slide by us, but still this is against the Acceptable Use Policy. Your webspace should only have to do about your domain. The Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy are also pretty clear on this. As long as it's legal, its okay. However this might be of some intrest to you. It's from the AUP: You are solely responsible for any information contained on your web site. However, if complaints are received regarding language, content or graphics contained on your web site, TotalChoice Hosting may, at its sole discretion, remove the web site hosted on TotalChoice Hosting servers and terminate your Web service. You agree to promptly reimburse TotalChoice Hosting for any reasonable expenses it incurs (including attorney's fees) in defending itself form third party claims relating to any of the content (whether created by you, your customers or your users) contained on your website. As far as how your punished if you go against the AUP or TOS, it's up to us and the situation at hand. Best rule to fallow is read the Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service because if you signed up with us, that mean's you've agreed to fallow them. It'd be a good idea to know what you're agreeing to... Hope this has helped answer your questions some, and welcome to the family! Quote
Guest mustansir_G Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 yay! I got my approval notice and I'll get busy setting up my web site. Thank you very much for your quick and thorough reply. Basically, the reason I'm asking these kind of questions is simply because this is not intended to be a commercial website in any way. At just $5 a month I setup a personal website on which I intend to put up stuff about hobbies, interests, software I've written, stuff like that etc. I'm not really looking to bend the rules or break them, hence I'm asking so many questions before I do anything wrong! But the bottom line is , Thank you for your prompt and friendly reply, I'm glad to be part of the TCH family! Quote
