ictus Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 First off, Hi... and second, I'm sorry I know most if not all of these questions will have been answered before, but seeing your responce is part of why I'm posting. 1. Can I pay via PayPal subscription on a monthly basis? 2. Are there script limitations (example Lunarpages wont allow you to host IPB forums (obviously you do as this is))? 3. If I want to upgrade a package, can I do it mid month, and is there an aditional charge for an upgrade.? 4. How many servers are you running? 5. If my site falls over, are the job tickets on another server so I can raise one (sounds daft but my existing hosts job tickets go down if my site goes down) 6. Do you switch your phones off (yes my existing host has done, and is never reachable) 7. How long before I can be up and running with a new domain and web space? 8. What happens if I post a question here that isn't good for totalhosting even if true? 9. Do you use cPanelX foraccount management? 10. Are you using fantastico? Ok, there will be more, I'm a big asker of questions and finally, you have guts putting up your photos, so I guess the service can't be too bad, and as I came here by word of mouth with luck I've found a good place to host, but one bad experience has given me the gitters Thanks in advance Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Hi and welcome to the forum. 1. Can I pay via PayPal subscription on a monthly basis? Paypal should be no problem. 2. Are there script limitations (example Lunarpages wont allow you to host IPB forums (obviously you do as this is))? There are only a few scripts that are banned. I don´t have a list on which are but if you submit a ticket to the help desk (link on top of page) they will be able to tell you more about it. 3. If I want to upgrade a package, can I do it mid month, and is there an aditional charge for an upgrade.? You can always upgrade/downgrade at any time. No additional fees I believe. 4. How many servers are you running? I will have to let someone else answer this. 5. If my site falls over, are the job tickets on another server so I can raise one (sounds daft but my existing hosts job tickets go down if my site goes down) Not sure I understand what you mean here, but the techs are monitoring the servers 24/7 for any problems. 6. Do you switch your phones off (yes my existing host has done, and is never reachable) I will have to let the staff answer this. 7. How long before I can be up and running with a new domain and web space? From Frequently asked questions page " Generally, if all of your billing information is in order, it should take between 1-12 hours to set up your account." 8. What happens if I post a question here that isn't good for totalhosting even if true? Let´s hope that never happens. But if you have a need to discuss something that you believe is wrong, please use the proper source for that discussion. Very often there are issues which we here in the forum can not solve while the help desk can. Also, the staff are usually online on different IM´s (read more here). But you will however not be "punished". In my own experience, all staff are working very hard to make your hosting here the best. 9. Do you use cPanelX foraccount management? Not sure if I understand this correct, but yes, cpanel comes with all accounts. 10. Are you using fantastico? No. Hope this helps. Quote
ictus Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 That helps a lot, and 30 minutes to reply, you guys should be in bed I've red in a thread about IPB which states it comes with the cPanel, that solves that one, though I may be just uploading my whole site and canging some details. Thanks Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 and 30 minutes to reply. Well, TCH have moderators and staff located all over the world, so you will have your questions or tech issues answered/fixed quickly no matter what time it is in any part of the world. Of course, there are times when it may take a little longer to answer, but it´s rare. Quote
ictus Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 The forums where one of the big selling point for Lunapages, and I was actually about to sign up when someone at rpggateway said take a look here. Well unless I can hunt down some bad reports that hold water, as I did with LP I'll be signing very soon. Quote
stevevan Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Good luck with your search. I think you'll find that TCH has just about the best deal going. And as that commercial says..."Not only am I a Moderator, I'm a client, too!" Welcome to the forums! Quote
ictus Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 Well I've been trying for an hour to find some bad reports on your company. I finaly found one, but I had to look hard, I found a review with lots of customer comments, I thought my Mac had crashed it took so long to load. That was due to so many comments, and there was one bad one http://www.hostingassured.findmyhosting.co...ils.htm?id=5330 You guys should post this as a link, I'll be having a word with some of my site members as they have been hunting down a good host too, but I think I found a home... PS Are you sure you can do monthly subscription for hosting, all the other sites ask for one year up front or you pay extra... Quote
ictus Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 I read that page, but what I'm getting at is most hosts charge significantly more per month if you don't go for annual billing if you change more or less the same for monthly billing, one it's a selling point, and two it shows confidence in your product as clients don't have to wait more than a month to change host. ictus Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 I went to sign up, and there isn't an option to registera domain as you sign up, do you have to regiuster the domain, then sign up for a plan? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Welcome to the forums. The link to purchase a domain name appears not to be working. 4. How many servers are you running? There are over 100 servers. 5. If my site falls over, are the job tickets on another server so I can raise one (sounds daft but my existing hosts job tickets go down if my site goes down) The help desk and this forum are on their own servers. So if there was a problem with the server you were hosted on (not very likely) you would be able to report it. 6. Do you switch your phones off (yes my existing host has done, and is never reachable) The help desk is the primary and requested method to resolve support issues and is manned 24/7. Quote
ictus Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 The link to purchase a domain name appears not to be working. This is a link to another site, but I presume it is your regitry site, however how long before the hosting sign up is working properly to allow be to register a domain at the same time? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Hello, The best would be if you registered a domain first due to these reasons. 1) When you sign up for a hosting account you will be asked to enter your domain name. After sign up you will be sent a welcome email containing login info etc. Until the propagation has finished (see #2), you will have a temporary way of uploading your files to the account/url, but this is not a permanent way to upload etc. When propagation has finished you will need to use ftp.your-tch-hosted-domain.com 2) Propagation reasons. It can take up to 72 hours before a domain properly work from all parts of the world. So in my opinion, it is best to register the domain first. Hope this helps. Quote
ictus Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 but doesn't TCH do a one stop sign up, like other hosts, ie you register the domain at the same time as signing up for the host, so it's only one billing, one company and one form or series of forms to complete. yes I know it's only minor but doing this all in one place makes me more comfertable. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 No. It´s two signups. Hosting account and domain are two different things. Quote
ictus Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 Domain and hosting done, so now I wait a bit and move to post sales questions for your next barage of questions Thanks for your help to date Quote
