harvey_s Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 I n looking at domain names I noticed that one can register a domain that ends in ".name" Is that literally how the domain ends or does another string of your choice get substituted ? I'm struggling to see the point of a literal .name suffix and have never come across a url that ended in that. Quote
abinidi Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Yes, if you wanted to, you could register a .name domain. As I understand it, that domain extension is reserved for people who want to have a personal website. And you can't pick a string of text--it literally ends in ".name". Also, as I understand it, you have to have it in the following format: firstname.lastname.name or lastname.firstname.name So, I would either have to register mine as paul.pehrson.name or pehrson.paul.name The requirements state that you can only register your legal name, or the name of a fictional character to which you have the legal rights. Here is a Google search that might have some answers to your questions. Best of luck. Quote
