icadmin Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I just recently installed phpbbs.. I noticed invisionbbs is no longer an option. After configuring the site.. when I logon to the board.. I literally have to logon twice before it acknowledges I'm online. I have the forums set to registered. Does anyone know if there is any relation or what I have to do so that you only have to log on once? It's like my initial logon never happened. Thanks. Ron Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I don´t have too much experience with phpbb, but this sure sounds weird. Are you running the latest version 2.0.15, downloadable here? If no, I strongly suggest that you upgrade it so you both get rid of eventual security problems and perhaps this problem will solve itself. If you do run the latest version and the forum isn´t too lively yet, I think you should delete the current installation and reinstall it. Quote

Ok. I've only had one person join and post. is there a way to save that person and what she wrote and put it back in with the new installation? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I am not saying it will solve the issue, but a reinstallation is what I would do if my forum was not too busy, and if that won´t solve it, dig a little deeper. As for saving the posts and reinstallation, I think you would only need to download a mysql backup in cpanel, delete the forum as well as the mysql database, upload the mysql database from the back up and reinstall the forum. This is what I would do, but there may be an easier solution, so hold on and there may be someone that knows exactly what to do, or you can see in the phpbb forum if anyone else have run in to this problem. tomowa Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Hi icadmin, It will most likely be cookie problems with your computer. Do you have access another computer you can try form, or have someone else try from their computer? HTH, Tom Quote
abinidi Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I'm not sure what exact problems you are experiencing, but with the latest release of PHPBB, they added a security feature that requires the administrator to log in a second time when they click the Go to Administrator Panel link at the bottom of the page. I'm running 2.0.15 (that I downloaded from PHPBB's site, since 2.0.15 wasn't available in my cPanel) and I log in once to browse/post to my forums, but must log in again (using same username and password) to access the administration panel. As I understand it, this prevents malicious users from faking a cookie and getting access to the admin panel. If you are experiencing an issue where you must log in twice in order to post to the forums, then you will probably want to do another installation. But you should be able to use the admin panel (in PHPBB, or you could use the one in cPanel) to back up your database, then uninstall your forums, then reinstall your forums, then restore your database. Best of luck. Let us know how it goes. Quote
