brooke527 Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 (edited) Hi! Currently I moderate a Message Board for Moms (in my city). We are using Invision Power Board and registered through Banterboard.com We are wanting to switch to a paid hosting site. Would we be able to switch over our current members and topics or do we have to start fresh? Or can the mods pre-register them? Also we are wanting some sort of front page, so when prospective members find our site we can have something on the front page that says, who we are and what we do before they register? Also can you explain what the unlimited emails is and how it works? As far as which package? We have about 64 members, with the most being online at one time, 15 members. So they are on/off throughout the day. Do your forums have the option to upload pictures from their computer onto the message boards? (not using a image hosting site)? Do the boards have PM capability? I think that is it for now! Thanks Brooke Edited June 13, 2005 by brooke527 Quote
TCH-Rob Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 You should be able to import your settings for the board. You can make any start page you want. You can create as many email accounts that you want. Unlimited is for the number of email accounts you can have. Just remember that you have a limited amount of bandwidth that those email accounts and all your visitors can use. I think you can get away with the starter package. Of course you can upgrade at any time. To be sure, one can always get the largest package you can afford. Yes, we allow Invision here and it should function as it does where you are so you can upload images and send PM's. Welcome to the forums. Quote
brooke527 Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 Thanks for replying! So when you say import your settings..can someone show/help me? Will we loose all the topics we have now? or is that what you mean everything (topics/members) can switch over no problems? Quote
TCH-Rob Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Well, It does depend on how you have things set up there now. If they let you have access to making a back-up of the board then you should be able to download it and import the settings here. You would need to ask them though to be sure. IPB does have a backup feature but I do not know if it is sufficient. Quote
brooke527 Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 That might be a problem... It was through banterboard.com, free site. They are no longer offering free sites and have no idea who to get ahold of. Where can I check on the cpanel about creating a backup? If it's not feasible, is there a way in to pre-register members? Like the mod an register a member (with a generic password) and then they can log on and change it then? Save them the hassle. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 You can pre-register members. In your adminCP under users and groups on the left there is an option to pre-register users. Try the backup feature in the adminCP of the board you have now and see if you can get some of the data or see if that site has a support contact. Quote
brooke527 Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 Sorry to bother you and THANK YOU for all your help! But under admin cp, where exactly is it? I don't want to loose everything trying to do it! Quote
TCH-Rob Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 The backup? Left window, under SQL Management. mySQL Back Up allows you to create a simple back up. Quote
brooke527 Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 Do I save it to my computer? I guess I do and then I can upload it to TCH when we sign up? That's what I got..don't know if I did am doing it right? So who is the best person to contact tomorrow afternoon via telephone to answer ALL my questions (b/c I have a few !) Quote
