hello

I'm new here and I also have a question about hotlink protection.

I have a domain and pro. hosting account with bravenet and due to huge bandwidth usage every month I asked the bravenet staffs to enable hotlink protection for me. They replied and gave me the link to this forum.

My questions are:

1. Where do I find the cPanal in my bravenet account? I'm pretty new to all this hosting stuff and thus I have no clue where I find it.

2. If I create my htaccess file which the bravenet staff told me to do, how do I have to name it? And where exactly do I have to upload it to? Which directory?

Am I right that I have to name is like: http://mysite.com.htaccess?

I hope someone can help me with this. And thank you Jim for the very good instruction about how to create this htaccess file. It was very clear and helpful and made it easy to understand what to do.Thank you

Hi,

welcome to our forums.

I don't think bravenet uses cpanel. I'm not sure.

The .htaccess is a simple ascii file, with the name .htaccess (note the dot infront of it) which should be uploaded in ascii to your root directory (ie, where your index.htm file is)

Alternatively, you could always come to TotalChoice Hosting where we do use cpanel :P

Welcome to the forum Arne.

It's strange that Bravenet sent you here for answers on their site. Anyway, as Andy said, the file you need is .htaccess (note the dot at the beginning) and is in the main directory along side your index.htm file.
