ClarkK Posted May 2, 2003 Posted May 2, 2003 After having a Horde web email session I receive this message later when my Outlook 2000 client connects to the mail server: What gives. Did I misconfigure something? My Outlook Settings WILL delete the message from the server. ??? Regards, Clarkk _____________________________________________________________ From: Mail System Internal Data [MAILER-DAEMON@server23.totalchoicehosting.com] Subject: DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE -- FOLDER INTERNAL DATA This text is part of the internal format of your mail folder, and is not a real message. It is created automatically by the mail system software. If deleted, important folder data will be lost, and it will be re-created with the data reset to initial values. ______________________________________________________________ Quote
TCH-Andy Posted May 2, 2003 Posted May 2, 2003 Hi, From memory this is perfectly normal and not a problem. Have a look at the thread here Andy Quote
TCH-Andy Posted May 2, 2003 Posted May 2, 2003 Hi, Just had a look through that thread - I think the best explanation is here which states; Every time you read your inbox or a Mail folder with an IMAP email client such as webmail (webmail.sas.upenn.edu) or Eudora or Netscape Messenger (set for IMAP), the IMAP server creates a file to keep track of folder data. If you then connect to your mail.sas account with a telnet or SSH program and use elm, pine, or use a POP email client (Eudora or Netscape Messenger set for POP) to read your inbox or one of the Mail folders you read with an IMAP client, you will see these files as messages with the subject "DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE -- FOLDER INTERNAL DATA". Do not delete these messages in elm or pine. If your POP e-mail client has downloaded them to your computer, you can delete them from your computer. General rules for deleting this message are: If you connect to your Mail.sas account using a telnet or SSH program and you see the message within elm, don't delete it. This is especially true if you use telnet or SSH and an email client (Eudora, Netscape Messenger, etc.). If you connect to your Mail.sas account using Eudora, Netscape Messenger, Outlook Express with a POP configuration that downloads that message to your computer, delete the message. Andy Quote
ClarkK Posted May 2, 2003 Author Posted May 2, 2003 Thanks Andy. Since most of the people I need to support are using a pop client such as Outlook, and since their settings are to delete messages from the server, It seems from the information you supplied this will not create any problems. Is this correct? Regards and thanks, Clarkk Quote
TCH-Andy Posted May 2, 2003 Posted May 2, 2003 Clarkk, That's how I read it. I use Outlook and delete it - I've never had any problems. I'm sure others will let you know if anyone has had a problem. Regards Andy Quote
