Ninepatch Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 The folks at Core released an upgrade to Core FTP Lite on 4/17/05. I know many of us around here use it, so I thought I'd pass along the word. Quote
abinidi Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I know that regular FTP connections aren't safe because they send your username and password unencrypted over the internet. I decided to download Core FTP, and I'm wondering what I should do to ensure that my password information is secure. Do I check SSL boxes? Do I need to change the settings on my TCH server? What is the most secure way to access my site via FTP? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 The TCH servers do not support SSL connections over FTP. In the minute time it takes to log onto the server your password is relatively secure. But if you must upload in secure mode you will have to use cPanel's File Manager. Quote
abinidi Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Oh. Ok. Thanks. So for a personal site (low traffic) I probably don't need to worry about FTP security? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 When you connect to the FTP server your user name and password are sent only once during the initial login. Security is always a concern but I have never used SSL for FTP in over 14 years and have never had a problem. Quote
abinidi Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Cool. Thanks. I won't worry about it, then. Quote
