I am reading that people need to turn off their anti-virus scanning when using Thunderbird because of the global box and how the virus could cause the whole box to be erased...(???)

I am just getting this a bit, but am hesitant to transfer over if I can't protect the computer against Netsky, etc.

If I turn off the anti-virus, how do I protect the emails and computer without compromising the quality of my email?

Thanks. :)

:D So, Steve, I am not sure what subject you are referring to.

What should I be paranoid about, or were you being rhetorical? :thumbup1:

Thanks,

I would never connect to the internet without an antivirus program with windows.

ABSOLUTELY!!! This is one instance where it pays to be paranoid!

I was referring to Don's statement. Personally, I'm very paranoid about connecting to the internet. I always make sure I'm using a decent firewall and antivirus program...and that the antivirus program has the latest updates. I can't begin to tell you how many people I talked to who complain that they had gotten a virus despite the fact that they had an antivirus program. When asked if they had updated the virus definitions, I almost ALWAYS hear "You're supposed to update that program?" So, yeah...that's where I'm paranoid.

I wonder who would be writing the suggestion to turn off your virus software? Do you remember where you read about that Queenpictoria? I'm with Don and Steve......keep it running AND keep the definitions updated. Some software has an automatic update feature which sometimes is a day or two after the actual definition update so I get it manually. I guess I fall in the paranoid catagory with TCH-Steve.
