stevevan Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 For those who follow this type of thing, NASA has started the rollout of the space shuttle Discovery from the Vehicle Assembly building to the launch pad. They hope to launch Discovery as early as May 15. This will be the first space shuttle launch since Columbia disintegrated during re-entry over two years ago. Here's to hoping they got the problems fixed and have a safe mission! Quote
woodygap Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 I too hope that they have all the safety checks and balances in place for a safe return to space travel. Quote
Madmanmcp Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Thanks Steve, I'll drive by there to take a look on my way to the Cruise or when I go back to my Dad's place on the Banana River. BoB in Palm Beach at the moment Quote

TCH-Bruce Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 I just read the launch has been pushed back a week. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.(AP) NASA pushed back next month's launch of Discovery by a full week, saying Wednesday it needs more time to complete testing and engineering work for the first space shuttle flight since the Columbia disaster. The new launch date is May 22. Quote
stevevan Posted April 22, 2005 Author Posted April 22, 2005 At least it was totally scrapped! Hope to be around that area when it goes up! Quote
Madmanmcp Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 Not sure which silo it was in but here are pictures from the cruise ship as we were leaving last week. http://cruise.venitsports.com/c137.jpg http://cruise.venitsports.com/c138.jpg My Dads place is right across the river from there and its a fantastic sight to see them take off from his roof or front yard. The ground shakes and it feels like you will fall. When he had his boat he would take us out in the Banana River to watch. Quote
stevevan Posted April 22, 2005 Author Posted April 22, 2005 Cool pic's Bob! Like I said, I'm trying to be in the area when it takes off so I can get some "live" pics! Should be quite the show! Quote
