I recently uploaded a bunch of files to the wrong folder. When I discovered my error, I re-uploaded them to the correct folder, and deleted them from the incorrect folder. Everything will delete except a folder called images, which has about 5 jpg files in it. At one point I had enabled Hot Link Protection, so thinking it might be interfering, I disabled it. After that I looked in my .htaccess file and it showed nothing there. Yet I still can't delete this folder, or the image files inside of it. I can't even change permissions on the files. I don't remember ever having this problem before, but I also don't ever remember trying to delete image files before. One thing I have done recently is install WordPress 1.5. I get the impression that earlier versions of WordPress messed around with .htaccess, but I am not sure if this version does or not. Can anyone tell me what is going on, and how I can delete this unwanted folder and its files?

I should add that I have tried this with Cpanel's File Manager and also with Smart FTP, the ftp program I usually use to upload files.
