icode Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 I get TONS of SPAM. I have the Spam Assassin enabled but a few questions: 1. I have it sep up so that SPAM ASSASSIn should discard (or delete) SPAM but it doesn't. 2. I have many filters trying to get rid of the same type of email (foreign spam) that includes the same type characters "=?GB2312?" in the from, the header everywhere and no matter how many times I add a new filter it still gets through?? 3. Is there any way to refuse ALL FOREIGN email? Quote

Then it'll auto send back a verification letter and if the machine doesn't return it, the letter is deleted. Quote

I was told also that it didn't work well yet and is not on all Cpanels and may be removed in the future. Any other ideas? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 You could check out http://spamassassin.org and look for language rules that you can add to your user_prefs file Quote

TCH-Don Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 If you use file manager or an ftp program that can see hiddend files you will see a folder in the root folder labeled .spamassassin inside there you will see user_prefs file Quote

TCH-Don Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Its SpamAssassin 3.0.2 hope that helps you can view the headers in your e-mail to see that. Quote
icode Posted March 11, 2005 Author Posted March 11, 2005 Its SpamAssassin 3.0.2 hope that helps you can view the headers in your e-mail to see that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks. According to the Spam Assassin site the configuartion changing they offer is for an older version 2.5 but I tried it anyway on 3.0.2 and although they say it wouldn't work on older or newer versions it seems to have worked for me (all I did though was accept only english emails (no foreign). Now my next question is how I get all this SPAM 600+ this morning to just be trashed rather than me having to manually do it. Would enabling Spam Assassin but NOT enabling SPAM mailbox do the trick? TCH-Bruce Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Well, you are going to have to delete them manually I think. But for future ones I would trun off the Spam mailbox and add an email filter to trash them automatically. Set up a filter: Select Spam Assassin Header in the filter box Select Begins with in the contains box Enter Yes in the 3rd box Enter Discard in the last box Quote

I will try it. Thanks. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 I've been using this on 3 different accounts hosted here at TCH for over a year and they do get discarded. I've never had one come through. I also don't have my SA configured to rewrite the subjects. However if you do change your filter accordingly. See this help page Quote

See this help page <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To Discard Spam the instructions say this: In the third box, enter: *****SPAM***** which doesn't work but your third box you said "Yes" which worked which is probably why I had a problem in the first place. TCH-Bruce Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 I will pass along the info to our webmaster. This post is what I used when I first configured my Spam Assassin. I razn it that way for a few months until I was sure it wasn't catching any good mail. Then I changed it to Discard instead of sending to an email address. Now when I set up a new account (domain) I create a spam@mydomain.ext and forward all spam messages to it until I am certain nothing I want is being filtered. Then I change it to discard. I use PopTray to check the spam account and delete the messages. Quote
