jbach Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Hi Note sure where to post this question. I want to create an Mp3 jukebox so I can access and play my MP3 library from the office. But I am wondering if I continuously stream MP'3's I might exceed my monthly bandwidth allowance. Can anyone give me an idea what the bandwidth requirements would be for the following: streaming of MP3, 8 hours a day , 5 days a week for one month for one user. Thanks in advance Jim Bachalo Quote
HCSuperStores Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I realize that this doesn't answer your question ... however ... You can put about 120 songs on one CD, and over 500 songs on 1 DVD ... So why not just burn yourself a few CDs or a DVD ... then you don't have to rely on all that technology to accomplish this? Just my thought ... that was offered ... without solicitation. Quote
TCH-Tim Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Just a little algebra. [60 minutes]x[8 hours a day]x[5 days a week]x[4 weeks a month] = 9600 minutes. Multiply that times however big a minute's worth of MP3-encoded music is. Depending on the bit rate, that could vary. 9600x[1 minute of MP3]=[used bandwidth]. If 1min.=1MB (and I'm too lazy to look up the actual numbers), you would use 9.6GB. Or just burn some CDs. Quote
Guest Serpentine Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Tim, That is about right. I would not advise doing this on a shared account either. Remember that the resources you will be using may affect other users. I would follow Bills advice and make CD's. Lets not forget that you are required to be the owner of the files you put on your account as well. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Lets not forget that you are required to be the owner of the files you put on your account as well. Or proof that you have permission to put up copyright material. Quote
