I upgraded my phpBB forum today to the latest version (2.0.11) manually. I did it manually because cPanel was reporting that I was running a newer version (2.0.8a) then I actually was (2.0.6). So rather then running into problems, I decided to just update it manually.

Since I updated it manually, cPanel still thinks I am running v2.0.8a. Is there a way to update cPanel so it knows that I am running c2.0.11?

Please open a support ticket with the help desk.  https://tchhelp.com

I don't know if it's possible if you didn't install it through cPanel, but the support staff would be the ones that would be able to update it if possible.

Thanks, I figured that is what I needed to do. I was hoping there would be a way to just it do it myself. I'll get around to asking their help on this one one of these days.

If you want to do it yourself, you could backup both phpBB files and database and then simply uninstall it in cPanel. Then you'd just have to restore the files and database. Of course you'd lose the possibility of upgrading through cPanel but since it seems you already have...

I had a similar problem with the upgrade. In one site of cpanel I could see the forum at all, in another site of cpanel it just came up with an error when I selected to upgrade. It apparent all was because of a particular skin I was using that was obviously confusing the upgrade to occur or be seen at all.

I lodged a ticket about it, the person who worked on the ticket, changed the skin, and I was able to then do the upgrade seamlessly. Current I am using x-skin as the skin in cpanel. So it might be a similar problem as well.

I would have thought the skins would have been heavily tested before being released in the real world for useage, but you can't have everything all the time can you.
