zebulon Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Hi Gang, I have been having problems using FTP on my sites recently. I use Dreamweaver MX and most of the time when I connect to remote. I get an error that the remote time could not be determined and then I do not see the remote files. I can still upload tho, but it seems to take forever and sometimes I get an error that it could not delete the remote file even tho when looking at the log the upload seemed to work. I have 9 or 10 sites and it seems like they work better after just being created??? I have had times when I have called the help desk and I believe they stopped and re-started ftp services or something and it seems to work better???? I downloaded and install filezilla but that seems to timeout and hardly work at all? I am using satelite internet connection and am hoping this is not the issure. The upload speed is not great but I would think better than dial-up? I just made some updates on a number of pages and it took forever to upload them to the site. Are their any settings for time-out or something I should be doing or checking. thanks Lynn Quote
LisaJill Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 In my experience, satellite upload times are worst than dialup. You may want to try it with dialup and see what happens. Other than that I'm not really sure. =/ Quote
D.Slatk Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Most likely you need to enable "Passive FTP" mode. Lets test it in dreamweaver (because I know where it is in dreamweaver anyways ), and if it still doesn't work in dreamweaver then that's probably not the problem. To turn passive ftp mode on: Open up the window which lets you edit your site details/information/etc. Just click next until you reach the part where it asks you for your ftp details. On the top, there should be two tabs. There is the tab you are in, and an unselected tab called "Advanced." Click advanced. Then look a little downwards. Check the "Use Passive Mode" or something to that nature. Click OK. Then try to connect. Does that fix it? If so you'll need to find how to enable passive ftp for your other programs that don't have it enabled. I know after a couple of nights after getting my site here I had to turn on passive ftp in dreamweaver and html kit because I was getting that error. ^^ Quote

I think you have just saved me hours of waiting during ftp's. thanks much!!!!!!!! Whatever passive ftp is, it works!!!!! Lynn Quote

paingold Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 ... Check the "Use Passive Mode" or something to that nature. Click OK. Wow. Clicking that checkbox got rid of my dreamweaver problems. Thanks! Quote
