Hello,

My friend who has been happy with your service referred me to TotalChoice. After reading through your forums, I am very confident I will be happy here. The attitude and friendly environment here is exactly opposite from the forums of my current host. I dont want to pollute your home with details about how awful they are so we'll just leave it at that.

I plan on moving two of my sites over to TotalChoice. One of my sites has high traffic and I cant afford to have extended downtime. I would like to know, when I purchase my plan from TCH, will I be able to have access via IP so I can work on installing my forums before I switch my nameservers?

I completely understand I will have some downtime, however I would like to minimize that as much as I can by installing my forums and restoring its database so that it is fully functional before I change my nameservers.

Next question. One of my sites will be experiencing a spike in bandwith due to a publication in a magazine. If I go over my bandwith, how much time am I given before I am 'shutdown'? I have no clue when the spikes may occur, and I will happily pay for the additional bandwith. Due to my job, I may not be able to immediatly rush to a computer to remedy the issue.

Thanks!

Yes, you will be given an IP address you can upload your content with and start your configuration. Some things may not work due to the fact of requiring a domain name to link to but will work correctly once the DNS has been switched over.

You are notified automatically when you have reached 80% of your bandwidth.

Thank you for the fast reply Bruce! An email at 80% is helpful, however what happens if I dont get to a computer in time and it reaches 100%? Some hosting companies wont shut down your site for XX amount of hours to give the customer a chance to pay for more bandwidth.

It has happened to me before, which is why I ask. My bandwidth shot from 20% useage to 140% within a matter of hours.

Welcome to the forums!

You can purchase extra bandwidth at $2.50 per gig,

maybe you might want to add a litte extra for the month the publication hits

As to the forums, you can install via the ip/~username

then you can setup databases

and use a temp copy of the forum config

and change the http://site/path to ip/~username/path

to be sure it is working that way you want.

And we can help more if you need it :sleepy:

thanks Don for the great tips! That information will be very helpful.

I just signed up one of my sites with tch. I was wondering if it will be possible to have my site put on a server nearest california. I didnt think of this until just now while reading some other threads. If not, then no biggie, I am confident that the speeds will be comprible for my users no matter where I end up.

I am sorry, but we can not tell this in the forum since we don´t know how much space there are left in each datacenter, but if you submit a ticket to the help desk (link on top of page) they will tell you if its possible.

You are right, it really won't matter where the server is

your users will have the fastest connection to yor site no matter where they are.

The servers are all very fast (quad processors and gobs of ram and very fast connection to the net).

if you need any help, please ask
