kahnweiler Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Hi, First of all I'm a newbie. I was hosting my site on my own computer with windows xp pro. Unfortunately my harddrive crashed but I managed to save the wwwroot and mysql folders. I installed mysql, php, perl on a new drive and copied the saved folders to test. Everything seems ok but I don't want to host anymore. The whole site is 450MB. Can you setup If I upload everything I have to you? I'm planning to get a yearly plan so will setup be free? Also do you have imagemagick installed which is a must for my movabletype. Quote
LisaJill Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Yes we have ImageMagick. What, exactly, is 450meg? Do you have a bunch of images or something? How big is your actual MovableType database? TCH will not do script installs etc, you'll need to install it yourself and set up the databases - however if you are having problems with the database import (using phpmyadmin) timing out, then you can upload the mysql file and submit a ticket and they'll run the import. =) Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 First of all, Welcome to your extended family Imagemagick is installed on the servers. There is no setup fees other than the yearly cost. As for the rest of your setup question, I will have to leave that some other to answer, but generally the user will need to upload his own content. Quote

Because of being a newbie I'm trying to understand what do I need to do. So I can take care of the website settings. Since all the links are set to www.mysite.com with total folders of cgi-bin, blog, archives there shouldn't be a problem. Assuming cgi-bin folder is provided by you. The database is set under C:\mysql\data\ as a separate folder and it is 1MB. I don't know how to back up. I thought I need cpanel but you are saying that I can use phpmyadmin. So my database is recoverable and I can transfer. Anyway I guess my case is nothing impossible. Your guys will help me if anything goes wrong. Quote
LisaJill Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 You don't even need phpmyadmin, but it makes it easier. You need to export your database to a .sql file so that it can be moved. =) As long as the database isn't 450meg we're good to go. Quote
TCH-Don Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Welcome to the forums and hopefully our family If you have phpadmin select the database > export > export select all you should be able to leave the other setting alone locate Save as file and check if it is a large database you may want to check zipped then select go save to disk > browse to or create a backup folder and you have a back up that can be imported back in later by going to SQL > Location of the textfile: (browse) if you need help we will be here.
