borfast Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 *sigh* Deja vu, anyone? http://www.computerworld.com/securitytopic...1,98636,00.html As usual, "Microsoft is working to forensically analyze the malicious code in Phel and will work with law enforcement agencies to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the malicious activity" but Microsoft itself will not be held responsible for all the damages their crippled software causes. As a software developer myself, I know that it's almost impossible to make a 100% bug free software but come on, Microsoft's software is becoming ridiculous... Quote
TCH-Rob Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 I cant believe Phel wrote that bad code. Who does he think he is! Quote
stevevan Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 Must be nice to have that much free time to find holes in Microsoft products and develop the code to exploit it all the time! Quote
Madmanmcp Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 Thanks Raul, this looks different then the previous ones. The hole was discovered in October and they are still working on the fix. This is not a surprise since this is typical MS stragedy. But the suggestion to contact the FBI is new, and the suggestion to call MS support for help will flood the system if this a huge base of infections. I would guess this is a targeted attack and will be very few reports. It probably involves lots of money and the intended audience will be a select few and not the mass majority as the other trojans target. They go for one or two positive hits, take the money and close up shop and run, only to setup else where to hit again. I'll be watching to see how this one turns out and see how close my theory is Quote
kaseytraeger Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 Thanks again, Raul, for keeping us updated about the problems with Micro$ucks. All of us here at TCH owe you a big debt of gratitude for providing warning to us of security flaws in various software and operating systems, particularly Micro$ucks because it is so pervasive as the operating system installed by default on many pre-configured, packaged computer systems. Thank you. And by the way, have a happy New Year! Quote
