Would anyone here be able to give me directions on how to create a Mailing List submission field on my website?

You might try Dada Mail

Its a double opt in list

so subscribers can subscribe and change their e-mail addy.

 

it supports batch mode for sending on a list,

as well as announce only.

 

To use just put a link to a list on your page.
