mike Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 HI. I'm hoping someone can give me some insight as to why my son-in-laws wireless network doesn't network. He has xp home with cable modem hooked to router and wireless antenna setup on second pc, running 98se. The tray icon says that it has a "very good" signal but neither pc can see each other. Workgroup matches, tcp/ip installed, client for microsoft networks installed. Notta. They have a motorola router. thanks in advance for any help. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Can they both access the internet and just can't see each other? Do you have file sharing turned on so that they can see each other? Quote
Madmanmcp Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Mike, try this link h_tp://www.practicallynetworked.com/support/winnetprobs.htm Quote
mike Posted November 25, 2004 Author Posted November 25, 2004 Bruce and Madman - I never did get an email about your responses. Sometimes that feature works sometimes it doesn't. thanks for your replies. I can't believe it's been this long . I have been so busy I haven't even gotten back here to look. Sorry. His main pc is hooked online with cable modem and he is wired to the router. The upstairs pc has the wireless setup. Neither can see each other and the main one is the only one that can get online. I went to that address, Madman, and I am about to go there and check those settings for them. Thanks very much. I'll let you know what happens in the event others encounter same. Madmanmcp Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 His main pc is hooked online with cable modem and he is wired to the router. The cable modem needs to be connected to the router (use the WAN port) unless you are using ICS to share the internet. And ICS will need to be installed on the 98SE machine from a disk created from the XP machine. But its best to run from the router and leave ICS alone. As for each PC seeing the other read that site I gave you to help get the network up correctly. Quote
