erika4u Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 I've done some extensive searching on the family forum and on Microsoft Support on this issue and haven't been able to come up with any solutions. I've copied banner html codes per the instructions from pages I want to link to and pasted them into the html page of my website in Microsoft Front Page. When I preview the page in Front Page, the banner appears and the hyperlink to the site works. However, when I publish the page to the web, the banners disappear. I've uninstalled and reinstalled front page extensions from the cpanel and published the website to the net again. None of these actions have resolved my problem. Any suggestions or ideas on how I can resolve this issue? Thanks, Erika www.ExclusivelyErika.com Quote
LisaJill Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 First, I've moved this to the right forum, for organization. Second, do you have an example page where the code is in place but not working, and can you show us the code that you've used here, so that we can have a look? one of the major things that can happen is if you use the word "banner" or other type of catchalls then some security agents will stop it from appearing, as they block "advertisements" and that's a common advertisement name - so you want to avoid the use of those words in url's. erika4u Posted October 8, 2004 Author Posted October 8, 2004 Hi Lisa, I'm new to the family and haven't used the forum too many times. Thanks for putting my question in the right topic area. Below is the code I have entered in Front Page, compared to what is showing up when I view the source from the internet page Front Page Banner #1 <a href="http://member.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm/ID/20782"><img src="http://ompi.onemodelplace.com/OMP_Images/general_images/omp_gif_banner10.jpg" width="468" height="60"></a> View from Source on Internet #1 <a href="http://member.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm/ID/20782"></a> Front Page Banner #2 <div align="center"><OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" WIDTH="468" HEIGHT="60" id="filmstrip" ALIGN=""><PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="http://www.musecube.com/images/banners/filmstrip.swf?name=Erika&usertype=model&username=Erika">'>http://www.musecube.com/images/banners/filmstrip.swf?name=Erika&usertype=model&username=Erika"> <PARAM NAME=loop VALUE=false> <PARAM NAME=menu VALUE=false> <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=autolow> <PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#FFFFFF> <EMBED src="http://www.musecube.com/images/banners/filmstrip.swf?name=Erika&usertype=model&username=Erika" loop=false menu=false quality=autolow bgcolor=#FFFFFF WIDTH="468" HEIGHT="60" NAME="filmstrip" ALIGN="" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></EMBED></OBJECT><BR> <a href="http://www.musecube.com/"><b><font'>http://www.musecube.com/"><b><font face="verdana" size="1">Free Portfolio hosting, model search & photographer directory</font></b></a></div> View from Source on Internet #2 <a href="http://www.musecube.com/"><b><font face="verdana" size="1">Free Portfolio hosting, model search & photographer directory</font></b></a></div> Here's a link to my site on the page I'm referring to Links I've also attached the file for the links page from my site. I do have Norton Internet Security on my computer and have disabled that thinking that might be part of the problem in viewing the banners on the site, but it still doesn't appear on Internet Explorer. I used another computer and connected to the internet on Mozilla Firefox and the banners weren't on the page then either. I've probably provided more information that what you were looking for. It's obvious when I view the source that the image information isn't there, but I don't kow how to fix that so the banners will appear on the site when viewing on the internet. Thank you for your time in attempting to help me resolve this. Erika Links.htm Quote
LisaJill Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Erika, The "links" page I'm looking at. Blue background - a large image at the top that says links with 5 button images under Home, About Me, Stats, etc... is that the page you're having trouble with? You do not see the Links banner there? I also see this code in the source ><div align="center"><OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" WIDTH="468" HEIGHT="60" id="filmstrip" ALIGN=""><PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="http://www.musecube.com/images/banners/filmstrip.swf?name=Erika&usertype=model&username=Erika"> <PARAM NAME=loop VALUE=false> <PARAM NAME=menu VALUE=false> <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=autolow> <PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#FFFFFF> <EMBED src="http://www.musecube.com/images/banners/filmstrip.swf?name=Erika&usertype=model&username=Erika" loop=false menu=false quality=autolow bgcolor=#FFFFFF WIDTH="468" HEIGHT="60" NAME="filmstrip" ALIGN="" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></EMBED></OBJECT><BR> <a href="http://www.musecube.com/"><b><font face="verdana" size="1">Free Portfolio hosting, model search & photographer directory</font></b></a></div> Which I think matches what you said. Note: Im on OSX and I run no security measures other than the built in firewall. You have multiple instances of hte word banner in there and I wouldn't be surprised if that remained the problem. of course - if none of what I described is the banner then I'm not seeing it either. =) Let me know! TCH-Bruce Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Erika, here's what I see. What's missing? Quote
erika4u Posted October 8, 2004 Author Posted October 8, 2004 Lisa & Bruce, What I was referring to is exactly what Bruce attached as a thumb nail in his post. The two banners at the center of the page underneath the page links. One is a black film strip and the other is multi blue with One Model Place in the banner. Thanks Bruce for verifying that they are there. It's a mystery to me why I can't view them on my computer while on the internet. Erika Thumbs Up Quote
LisaJill Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Ah, I'm not seeing those on Firefox 1.0 PR on OSX. But I just remembered that I installed some CSS blocking of banner ads into Firefox's userContent.css - so that's why. =) Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 Doesnt Firefox have some pretty agressive built in popup/ad blocking? Quote
oompahloompah Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 Popup blocking is different from blocking ads on the same page itself. They're both ads except one's embedded into the page and the other just keeps popping out, creating new windows. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 True, but I have noticed that other popup blockers blocks embedded ads too, so I figured it might be the case for Firefox too. Quote
LisaJill Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 Not by default, no; but I found some helpful information (I found it through del.icio.us) about using their userContent.css to block embedded ads - did that, it's brilliant. =) Here's the link: http://texturizer.net/firefox/adblock.html Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 In what folder will I find "userContent.css"? The only place I find it is in thunderbird, which I assume is wrong? Quote
LisaJill Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 If you click on the link for userContent.css in that article, it takes you here: http://texturizer.net/firefox/edit.html#content It does not exist by default. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 Aha ok. Thanks Lisa I never saw that " userContent.css file" part as a link. Quote
LisaJill Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 blue text where the rest of the text is black... =) Quote
