RickB Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Hi, I would like to purchase a combination DVD Recorder / VCR so I can easily transfer/copy olf family VHS tapes to DVD. OK, there are lots of choices out there, BUT, I want to be able to play the DVD on both a DVD player AND my PC. So here's the question. Which DVD Recroder/VHS combo brands record DVDs that will also play on PCs? Thanks, Rick Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 I'd wait for the new VR2940 coming out from GoVideo. Here is a link to information about it. http://www.govideo.com/Index.asp?GV=VR2940 Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Which DVD Recroder/VHS combo brands record DVDs that will also play on PCs? To answer that question I believe you would (should) be able to play any of the the DVDs on a computer provided you have DVD player software. Computer DVD drives seem to play both -R and +R formats well. It's conventional DVD players that have problems. The +R format seems to work better for me. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 What does those things cost in the U.S? Here in Sweden they are way too expensive to even think about. <_> Quote
borfast Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 They cost from 85 to 200 Euros (~ 100-220 USD, or something), here in Portugal, depending on the brand and model. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 The unit I mentioned above at MacMall is a little over $300 US. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Hm... The model Bruce mentions is about 2200 swedish money then. Ok, Thomas is off to America. Quote

Raul, are these DVD and VCR recorders? Most of them here in the US are over $400. I think you are talking about DVD player/VCR combo units. Quote
borfast Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 No, I'm talking about a DVD recorder but for the computer. My eyes are getting tired, I skipped the VCR part, sorry guys Quote
