nedlange Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Hello, I am enjoying my stay here at Totalchoice - all of my silly questions have been answered and the service provided is perfect. Thanks to everyone that has helped me in the past. I just wondered if Macromedia Contribute could be run on a reseller account. I'm not sure what OS the server is running on.. RedHat or what.. Here are the requirements for Contribute: Linux Intel Pentium processor or equivalent Red Hat Linux 7.2, 7.3, 8.0, 9 SuSE Linux 7.2, 7.3, or 8.x Fedora Core 2 256 MB RAM (512 MB recommended) 200 MB available disk space Thanks for any info regarding this... TCH-Andy Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Hi, I have not used Macromedia Contribute, so can not tell for certain, however, looking at the literature it appears that the contribute software runs on your computer (rather than the server) and then interfaces with the server via FTP. Hence it would not be running on the server, and therefor not a problem. I may have misread the macromedia site of course The best way to find out is to download a trial version for your operating system, and have a good look at how it works, and what is needed on the server. borfast Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 (edited) Andy is right, Macromedia Contribute is a local application (meaning it runs on your local computer) and interacts with your account via FTP. As long as you have an FTP account on your server, you can use Contribute. So there's no problem with using it with your account on TCH I must war you, though, that Contribute is quite a messy piece of software. It will create directories as it pleases and will not ask you about the file/directory structure you want your site to have. If later on you decide to move away from Contribute, you'll have a pretty hard time reorganizing everything. I know, I've been there when I had to remake the website for my previous school... Mad!!! Moving for organization. Edited September 21, 2004 by TCH-Raul Quote
