Remangiii Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 I can't access FTP because of a university Firewall (File Sharing Prevention I guess.) Friends have told me that I can get around this using a Proxy or Remote Hosting. Help please? Quote
LisaJill Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 FTP (port 21) and file sharing (P2P networks, use a variety of ports) are totally different. I'm not sure about the other things your friend mentioned but I'd contact your University tech support and confirm with them. The only other way I know about it is to use cpanels file manager. Quote
Remangiii Posted September 19, 2004 Author Posted September 19, 2004 I'm not sure tech support will be intrested in helping me. I'll have to check out the Cpanel File Manager, although that is also blocked from my dorm room. Quote
LisaJill Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 They may not be willing to "help" but they can confirm if there is something blocking port 21; if there isn't then some other troubleshooting can begin. It'd be very unusual to block that port. =) Quote
Remangiii Posted September 19, 2004 Author Posted September 19, 2004 If I go to my control panel or try and connect using FTP the connection times out. If I go to the Library and connect using a wireless nextwork it works fine. The only difference is wireless vs LAN in the dorm room. But I guess asking wouldn't hurt anything... Quote
LisaJill Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 It is very likely that the library and dorms are on the same network; I know my school's is. I'd talk to them before getting frustrated with it - they can answer some questions. You can also try running a traceroute. Quote
Remangiii Posted September 19, 2004 Author Posted September 19, 2004 Alright. Thanks for the quick replies. P.S. What's a traceroute? Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 Welcome to the Family Remangiii and your new home! You can trace the route to your server with http://centralops.net/co/DomainDossier.aspx just enter your domain and select trace route. We really are like family here. So if you need anything, just ask your new family! We love to help Quote
Remangiii Posted September 19, 2004 Author Posted September 19, 2004 Sorry, but I really don't have idea how to use that? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 Welcome to the famil, Remangii! Don't know how to use what? tracert? What OS are you using? In Windows XP, tap your start menu, tap Run, enter CMD and press OK to get to a system prompt. Now type in tracert ****** Copy and paste the output here for someone to look at. Quote

TCH-Don Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 Using the link I posted and pasting your domain into the address box I get Traceroute Traceroute Tracing route to orioleshangover.com [209.152.177.64]... hop rtt rtt rtt ip address fully qualified domain name 01 00 00 00 216.46.228.229 port-216-3073253-es128.devices.datareturn.com 02 00 00 00 64.29.192.145 port-64-1949841-zzt0prespect.devices.datareturn.com 03 00 00 00 64.29.192.226 daa.g921.ispb.datareturn.com 04 00 00 00 168.215.241.133 hagg-01-ae0-1001.dlfw.twtelecom.net 05 00 00 00 66.192.253.116 core-02-ge-0-3-1-508.dlfw.twtelecom.net 06 25 26 25 66.192.255.22 core-02-so-1-0-0-0.chrl.twtelecom.net 07 29 29 29 66.192.242.37 dist-01-so-2-3-0-0.cmba.twtelecom.net 08 29 29 29 207.67.35.42 hagg-01-ge-0-3-0-0.cmba.twtelecom.net 09 40 40 40 66.192.80.22 66-192-80-22.gen.twtelecom.net 10 40 40 40 66.35.174.1 pos0-1.atlngapk22w.cr.deltacom.net 11 42 42 42 66.35.174.102 pos3-0.suwangaeq00w.cr.deltacom.net 12 42 42 46 66.35.174.138 suw03.gig2-0.edeltacom.com 13 42 42 42 216.154.207.154 suwc5.gig3-6.edeltacom.com 14 42 42 42 216.154.207.122 suw0n.gig4-3-6.edeltacom.com 15 28 28 28 66.0.192.252 16 28 28 28 209.152.177.64 server54.totalchoicehosting.com Trace complete which seems normal. Remangiii Posted September 19, 2004 Author Posted September 19, 2004 Yes, using that link I get the same results. So what does it mean? Quote
LisaJill Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 It may mean nothing - some firewalls block traceroutes; a problem that I had constantly in my old job. Quote
