HWQ Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Hi, I am a new comer in this forum. I am thinking of setting up a forum using Invision on my website. I would like to have the option later to post ads beside a discussion page. For example, it would be nice to set the board in a center area defined in a style sheet and have a banner on the top or a list of logos in a column in the right. Can I do that? If so, can you tell me where to look for further instruction? Many thanks! Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Welcome to the family! Yes, I know it would be possible, but sorry I don't know how. There are several users here that use Invision and I am sure someone will be along with an answer. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 If those cannot help you can always use your favorite search engine and look for invision power board modification or the like and there are several sites devoted to customising Invision. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 (edited) This page should help you find what you look for: http://www.invisionboard.com/?resources NOTE: Its a page with links to IPB resources. There is no scripts or info on the page itself. Edited September 7, 2004 by Jikrantz Quote
kiwicra Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 Gidday I am really new at all this, and am interested in putting a forum on my site also, but don't have a clue what to do or how to go about it. As long as the forum does not have popup adds and all that jazz, I don't care what sort it is, but it must be real simple for me to work it. Any suggestions please. Cheers Jack Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 This was discussed recently in this thread. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 Hey, I forgot that (I missed checking the left column, sorry for that )... Welcome to your extended family Quote
TCH-Don Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 Welcome to the Family Jack and your new home! We also have a CSB forum if you need it. We really are like family here. So if you need anything, just ask your new family! We love to help Quote
kiwicra Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 Gidday, Thanks for the welcome. Thomas, I read through that thread but like I said, I am a newcomer, and I mean that in a big way. I am sorry but most of that went right over my head, cos I am just a simple country boy and very new to all this stuff. Can I go to my cpanel and just set it up from there? I used to have Bravenet forum, but it was infected with fungus, like lots of things kept poping up like mushrooms, and it put people off. Or should I be asking this of the support people? Like I said I am new to all this, can someone please explain the difference between: Chat, Forum and a Bulletin Board? Cheers Jack Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 (edited) You can set up it via the cpanel, I believe it is a earlier version (version 1.2) than what is used in this forum and there is also an even newer version available (for purchase though) at the Invision Power Boards site (see link on bottom of this page). If you install through the cpanel, it will guide you through it, so that should not give any problems. If you decide to install version 1.3 or even decide to purchase 2.0, it will contain step by instructions on how to set up. You can always ask any questions in this forum and we will try to answer them (which should not be any problem since many of us here use IPB). There is also great documentation and I think a forum for specific IPB questions at their site. As for asking the TCH-support people. You can´t since TCH does not provide any support for any scripts, so if any problem, please ask here and someone should know the answer. Edited November 2, 2004 by TCH-Thomas Quote

TCH-Thomas Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 (edited) Chat are in real time, like when you speak to someone on the phone. Forum and Bulletin board are the same as far as I know. In other words, you post a message and others read/reply if/when they see it Edited November 2, 2004 by TCH-Thomas Quote
kiwicra Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Gidday again, Well, I have put a furom on my site but have not yet linked it so it is still only me who knows it's there. Only trouble I see at the moment is that the forum is locked and I don't know how to open it. I can work the test forum O.K. but there seem no way that I can see to open up a topic on the main forum, in fact it is as if it ain't there. It does say at the bottom that the fforum is locked. How do I unlock it. I want to see that it is all working before anouncing it on my front page of the website. Any help most appreciated. Cheers Jack Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 The only thing I can think of is to check admin panel > system settings > Board on/off if its on or off. Quote
kiwicra Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Gidday Thanks you jokers. I got it going. Even an old thicky like me can get these things. It's great Eh! Cheers Jack Quote
