The fan I bought along with my computer just died, so I need to get a new one. The problem is that with all this case modding vogue of lately, I don't know anymore what's a good cooler and what's just a nice-looking cooler.

So... does anyone have a suggestion for a good cooler+fan I can buy? I want it to be good but I don't need it to be stupidly powerfull nor pretty. I'm not into case modding and all that stuff, so I want it as simple as possible but to last as long as possible and also to have the lowest price tag as possible.

In order of importance (from most important to least important):

Good Quality

Lifetime

Low Price

Silent

Any suggestions?

Thanks :)

Thanks for the tips, Mike, I'm heading for those sites now. :)

I already knew Coolermaster and heard of Thermalright but not the others.

What about Thermaltake? They were the first ones I ever heard of. Are their products any good? I think they're a bit too expensive but I may be wrong, as I never bought any of their products.

I've been using the Thermaltake Volcano 7 cooler on my XP2000+ CPU with no problem for over 2 years. The only mod I did to the cooler when I installed it is it had a temperature sensor that I removed and hardwired the fan to always run max RPM.

'Course I also had a Thermaltake silver orb (older model yet) in my XP1300 system and the orb fan died after 3 years or so and my cpu fried. But then again, that machine was on 24/7 for over 3 years.

Well, I bought an Akasa AK821q (Google search about this cooler).

It's made for AMD Athlon XP 2800+ and above (I have a 1600+, so I'm way above what I need), copper base, alluminium heatsink, max fan spped of 4600 RPM (from what I've seen, it stays around 4440 RPM), fan air flow of 23 CFM, noise level of 32 dB(A).

All this for the low price of 15.90 Euros (around 19 USD).

I'm quite happy with it so far, it's keeping the CPU at a constant 25.5 Celcius (78 Fahrenheit) and I can barely hear it. A friend of mine has been using this brand during the last year and he says he's been quite satisfied.

I ended up buying this unknown brand because the local computer stores didn't have anything from CoolerMaster, Thermalright or any other known brands with a price tag below 50 Euros (around 60 USD), and since I don't need something that good, I decided to save some money :)

Thanks for the advice, everyone :)
