I'm in the process of moving my site to TCH and I have a couple of questions:

1) What are the _vti directories for?

2) My old site is running a phpbb2 forum. I want to move it here. What's the best way to do this?

--> Move the old phpbb2 files and do a DB restore OR

--> Use Cpanel to setup a new site and restore the data from the old site

Regards,

Dan, the vti files are frontpage extensions. If you don't use frontpage you can uninstall the extensions via cpanel and those files will go poof.

If you used cpanel on your old host and still have access you can submit a ticket and ask the tech guys to move it over. This won't always work, it depends on the setup on your old hosts site.

If you don't/can't do that - then a mysql export and re-import here is the easiest way. You'll still need to upload the program files to run it, of course.

Hope that helps. =)

Roger on the Frontpage stuff.

On the PHPBB question: My old host didn't have CPanel (or anything even close), so that's not an option.

I'm thinking that since CPanel gives the latest version of phpbb, I should just create the forums new and import my data (I use mMySQL-Front). Speaking of which, how can I access my MySQL databases without using CPanel? What I mean is, what's the address of the MySQL server?

I'm not sure, as far as I know you have to go through cpanel or phpmyadmin. The server is generally "localhost" and the databases are not shared, you get your own (unlimited number) of them. =)

I would personally suggest a database import, it's the easiest thing to do. Make sure that you have downloaded and upload the files here (especially the templates) if you have done any customizations and/or hacks. =)

I have moved a couple of phpBBs in my past.

Even moved one to TCH to try out the process.

I made sure the phpBB versions matched up on

the old site and the new (TCH). Created a phpBB

using CPanel. Exported the MySQL database from

the old site using MySqlAdmin. Imported the data

into the new phpBB (TCH) using MySqlAdmin.

That process works like a charm.
