I've seen this mentioned roundaboutly in a couple of other threads, so I wanted to clarify ---

Is it correct to say that the "Download/Generate full backup" feature in cPanel is, for the most part, useless? Impossible to restore directly from? Because I just restored my backup from my previous evil host, and I was piqued to see that while it created a nice backup directory in my root with all the backup files, it failed to actually restore the stuff.

I'm going to have to do all the individual component backups manually, eh?

(By the way --- I could swear I'd posted here before, but I can't find my old post, so hi! I'm a refugee from an evil, human-free hosting company, and I was delighted to find a hosting company with better prices and better reliability and human beings at the helm. :) )

Edit TCH_Rob: Please do not link to other hosting companies.

Ergh, sorry! I was trying to make a "don't go here!" statement, but yeah, sorry.

Can't say for sure as I have never tried a restore.

But if your previous host uses cPanel you can open a support ticket (link above) and request them to do a site transfer to your new site here.

And, welcome to the family. :)
