ramone_kalsaw Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 To test their RSS feeds, I added my two blogs to my Blogline feed list. http://www.bloglines.com/myblogs -- "The Dojo" and "Lao Xian's Teahouse" (Disclaimer: please note that all these articles are unedited works in progress :Nerd: Everything is listing fine in the Blogline rightbar, but no matter which link I click on -- in either of the two blogs -- the link goes to the index page of my main blog. The url on the index page is the one for the link I clicked on, but the content is what's on the index page. Any ideas on how to correct this? Thanks. Quote
LisaJill Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 ramone, The people at EE are looking at this. I'll add it to my bloglinles feed now to have a look at it - but you need to go to plugins.pmachine.com and make sure you have the latest version of the XML Encode plugin or you'll have problems. =) Moving this to the scripting forum. LisaJill Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 (edited) After looking at it I can say 95% that the reason it's not working is you have an old, buggy version of the XML Encode plugin. Grab the newest one and upload it to plugins and your feeds should work. =) The reason that I can tell this is that it is showing a character entity for one of the slashes (& # 4 7 ; or sometihng like that) which is what the update to the plugin fixed. ramone_kalsaw Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 Thank you, Lisa. You are impressive! Quote
ramone_kalsaw Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 Lisa, I downloaded "version 1.0" of XML Encode from the pmachine plug-in library and installed it -- pi.xml_encode.php (Date Modified 6/16/2004) -- into System > Plug-ins. I emptied my Internet cache and cookies, logged out and back in to Bloglines, and I'm still having the problem. What am I missing? Thanks! Quote
LisaJill Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 ramone, this will probably only work for newly published entries - or if bloglines re-reads the feeds. It won't work retroactively if bloglines does not re-load the feeds, of course. Try posting a new message and see if it works. If it does not - I highly suggest you post over in the technical support forum at EE and let them help troubleshoot it - as that is about the limit of my knowledge with it and I'm fairly positive that the plugin is the problem. I'm not aware of anyone else at TCH that is that experienced (or at all) with EE so utilizing the tech guys at EE would be very useful. (I responded twice in your thread there.. I just think that you need to use the right avenue to get the most help. =) ) Quote
LisaJill Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Bloglines just re-published these and they work, now, ramone. =) Quote
ramone_kalsaw Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 ok. I hear ya on the EE tech support topic ... Regarding your experience with RSS/ Bloglines: Bloglines' FAQ says that, "Currently, Bloglines checks sites once an hour for updates," but says nothing about "re-loads." Is it the case that whatever I have posted already I'd have to re-post, so when an RSS service like Bloglines updates again it would reload my articles with the updated EE XML Encode plug in? My concern is that if I don't re-post all of the articles uploaded with the "buggy" XML Encode plug-in, the articles I already have posted won't be accessible by someone who subscribes to my blog. Am I understanding how RSS works in this case? Thanks! Quote
LisaJill Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Bloglines checks last updated headers (this is not something I can explain, it's a technical issue, you can google for http headers for information) and then pulls it in if it's updated. It checks these one an hour. You do not need to republish or anything for it to do that - if they've changed it, it'll update them. You don't have to re-post anything, it'll detect the changes, it's smart and neat. And it did, as per my last post - they're fixed and showing up properly now. =) Quote
