Hi

This has probably been asked before but I thought I'd ask anyway.

1. When (!) I sign up for hosting is it possible to test the site in a domain environment before I change the name servers? I would prefer to have everything up & working before "flicking the switch" so to speak.

2. Regarding phpBB2, I have already designed a new template, is this easy to install on your system? and how easy would it be to transfer the existing phpBB2 tables & suchlike?

3. Not sure about anything else.. As long as I can transfer my database using Navicat I should be fine ;)

Margo

Old host - had their mail server hacked and presumably their main server, my CC was taken and has been used. :(

1) Yes, to an extent. But it will be http://ipaddress/~username - so some relative paths etc may not work as expected. But otherwise yes.

2. If you take a proper mysql export then all you need to do is import it using phpmyadmin. If it is too large you can ftp it up and submit a ticket and ask them to import it locally to avoid timeouts. You can then ftp up teh templates directory of your phpbb directory (make sure you download them from your old site) and that should do it.

3) No idea what navicat is. =)

Look forward to welcoming you to our family. Make sure you post in the intro forum so we can! =)

Unfortunately, I don't use relative addressing which is why I was asking about the domain environment... umm just makes it awkward as I will be unable to test the site b4 changing the DNS. :(

phpbb2 should be fine then which is good news. It's a very new board so there is not much to transfer.

Navicat is a GUI MySQL manager, very nice too. phpMyAdmin also works well ;)

One last question regarding the paypal option. Does that setup automatic monthly payments?

Tech question: Are global variables off for PHP? ( would prefer off ;) )

Thanx!

I'm very tired so bear with me. =)

As far as the domain... you can test most things but if yes, some relative paths will have difficulties.

I'm so confused about Navicat - is that something that runs on your machine to administer your remote database? That'd be purty neat if so. =)

http://www.lisa-jill.com/phpinfo.php There is phpinfo for the server I'm on, and they're all the same as I understand it. =) Does something in there answer your question about globals?

Sorry I'm not sure about all of the answerrs. I'm sure someone that can give you more definitive answers will pop in shortly!

Shucks and it's only 5pm here ;)

Thanks for the info page that did answer some questions. No hge problems just things I need to be aware of coding wise as it affects treatment of variables.

My entire site uses absolute addressing so it will be a case of upload & cross fingers! lol... It should be alright as it is currently working ... I hope!

I will wait to here about Paypal.

thx.

Welcome Margo

if your current host has cpanel,

you may be able to get tech support to copy your old account

to your new account here, e-mail, databases and files.

It would make it easier, just open a help ticket,

link at top of page after you sign up.

Well, they are using winfows and something called Control Panel Professional.. Somethine ELSE for email, something ELSE for the databases..

It's Ok, I will just take my time transferring and setting up. I always make a list of everything that needs to be done with changing the DNS servers last thing.

:) Just waiting on a deposit into my Paypal atm.

Thank you

Margo
