Springfire Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Ok question: here is my problem.... my current host is having major problems and I would like to move my domain to TCH.....but if they are having problems with server uptime it is more than likely going to take a while before things could be transfered. (I would think anyway) That DN will expire in November. My hubbie has suggested I just reg a new domain and put it here at TCH, then down the road when the other host get's their act together move my original domain to TCH as well.......ok I want to keep both domains, so I was looking at the reseller accounts. (The question finally) If I get a basic one-domain account now... can I upgrade to the reseller account down the road easily? Or would someone else be able to recommend something else....... I would really like to keep my orignal .com domain name but I don't have a problem getting a .org one as the new one. And I don't really have a problem of going to a reseller account other than the fact I can't get the reseller account now but would like to down the road... Thanks for your time...thoughts... Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 (The question finally) If I get a basic one-domain account now... can I upgrade to the reseller account down the road easily? Absolutely. And if your .com and .org are going to open the index page and not a sub-folder or sub-domain you won't even need the reseller account since you can park one of the domains over the other. If the sites are going to contain different content then yes you would require a reseller account or two individual accounts. Quote
Springfire Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 ok.... if I parked one domain could I still do the subdomains............. and basicly it would be all the same information or type of information... or if I want to do subdomains would it be simpler to just do seperate accounts... Quote
Springfire Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 Ok another thought I had ..........what would be a good estimation for how long a transfer would take....... for the domain ( I have no clue who the registrar was) and the site information we already have. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I don't know how long the domain trasnfer would take. Are you the administrative contact for your domain name. You don't have to transfer the domain name if you have access to change the DNS (name servers) which is all that is necessary to change. As for subdomains you can have unlimited subdomains. When I said park one domain on top of the other means if you enter http://****** or http://yourdomain.org they would load the exact same start page since they are pointing to the same web space. Springfire Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 ok that helps a bunch... I was able to find out my who is info finally after 4 months of trying. According to the whois stuff it says I am the admin, tech contractor, and billing person.... so I just need to fig out the name server change........I can deal with that... the domain I have currently is czpkc.com Quote
TCH-Don Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 When you registered your domain name, you should have received and e-mail with the info on logging into your domain name control panel, where you can modify the nameservers. You will need a password and maybe a login name. There will be a place to login on your registars site. Quote
Springfire Posted July 3, 2004 Author Posted July 3, 2004 ok hopefully I have done everything right and can get my stuff transfered over to TCH Edit: Thanks for the help Quote
