borfast Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 (edited) It's about time someone did something http://www.eff.org/patent/ Check out some of the patents EFF is trying to fight back: # One-click online shopping (U.S. Patent No. 5,960,411.) # Online shopping carts (U.S. Patent No. 5,715,314.) # The hyperlink (U.S. Patent No. 4,873,662.) # Video streaming (U.S. Patent No. 5,132,992.) # Internationalizing domain names (U.S. Patent No. 6,182,148.) # Pop-up windows (U.S. Patent No. 6,389,458.) # Targeted banner ads (U.S. Patent No. 6,026,368.) # Paying with a credit card online (U.S. Patent No. 6,289,319.) # Framed browsing; (U.S. Patent Nos. 5,933,841 & 6,442,574.) and # Affiliate linking (U.S. Patent No. 6,029,141.) The more I read about this patents thing the less my mind is willing to believe it. It's so stupid that my brain just can't retain the information. Edited June 12, 2004 by TCH-Raul Quote

Boojum Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 Raul, A question of policy: Are you not allowed to use active links to the stories cited in your posts? I ask because active links would be a definite convenience, inasmuch as copy/pasting or drag/dropping either requires using the active window or opening a new one, waiting for it to load, and then pasting in the URL; and this window must be either returned to TCH via the back button or otherwise disposed of in order to return to the forum. TCH-Bruce Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 (edited) A question of policy: Are you not allowed to use active links to the stories cited in your posts? There is no written policy about active links. But we try to keep active links to a minimum. If the content is internal to the TCH domain or a domain hosted on TCH then by all means make it an active link. If the link takes you away from the TCH domain it is preferred to make the link non-active. These forums are spidered by the search engines all the time and in creating active links to all these outside sites may improve their search engine rankings. Edited June 12, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
