Virtual Imager Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 Because of all the images on my pages, it is typical for me to see that if a certain IP address viewed one page, there would be perhaps 15 to 18 hits. More pages, more hits in pretty much the same ratio. But sometimes I see things like one address with 13 pages and 13 hits. It seems unlikely that someone would go to 13 different pages and not let any of them load (besides, I'm not getting a high number of partial content errors). So how is this possible? VI Quote
annie Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 In the past, people with very slow machines and slow connections would turn off graphics in Netscape. A very accessible setting made that possible. Today it's very unusual. There are situations where people would do that, but it's not something you'd see most of the time. Most likely this is some sort of spider. If you could check the user agent, that would tell us more. The IP number too, might help. Quote

If someone has graphics turned off, there would be no reason for them to visit 13 of my pages which are, for the most part, just image galleries. So I can't imagine that being the explanation. Spiders make more sense, but why wouldn't it register the total hits on the page? I have no idea what "check the user agent" means, let alone how to do it! But here's the IP: adsl-19-3-86.asm.bellsouth.net Thanks Annie! Quote
annie Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 The last bit on the line is the user agent. Usually preceded by Mozilla, but sometimes omitting that. Spiders usually don't download images, so that would make perfect sense. Quote
