Dumplin Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 Ok I have Neomail, Horde and Squirrel 1. If I pick Squirrel to use and delete stuff is the same stuff deleted off the other 2 mail programs? 2. I like the folder setup in Horde.....you can just check the folder [spam] and empty it. 3. Speaking of Spam is there any way I can set it to be deleted automaticaly? Seems to me if the program is smart enough to put spam in the spam folder it should be smart enough to just delete it too<G> Ok now to my assigned mail account.........this is the one I was given when I got my hosting information. I never gave out the addy or used this account for mail except maybe one text mail to my Verizon account. All that comes into that account is spam.....can that account be dumped. If it can't can I at least block all email. I hate spam and use my Verizon account for family and frends, I have another pay for account at annexcafe for using in public newsgroups......it works great and no spam gets to my inbox, I have it set to block spam at the server. I really would like to use a mail account from my domain and think I can handle the spam comming in for the admin addy but the main addy I can do without. Hope I made sense.......sometimes I have a hard time explaining what is bugging me Quote

If you turn off the Spam box and create an email filter to Discard any email with a Spam Assassin header equal to Yes will silently delete the Spam. Can you please explain a little closer what i type where? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 Thomas, what I have done is this on my account. In cPanel select Default Address. then select Set Default Address, select your domain name in the dropdown list and in the box to the right enter :blackhole: and save it. In addition to this I've set up Spam Assassin as per the instructions posted here This has eliminated about 98% of my Spam email. I use K9 (http://keir.net/k9.html) to filter the rest. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 Ok, I think i got it, but one last (perhaps really stupid) question... The other thing you need to do is set your default address in cPanel to :blackhole: which will discard any email sent to your domain for an account that does not exist. 2. Set up the default email to go to my non-TCH email address. If i set it to :blackhole:, how can i then set it to a non-TCH adress? Im sorry, but i just want to make it right...and its better to be safe (my mom told me ) Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 (edited) Thomas you are confusing your CONTACT email address with the DEFAULT email setting. See attahcment. Edited June 3, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 (edited) I noticed that now. Sorry. But thanks for the explanation. I´ll see if it works. Edited June 3, 2004 by Jikrantz Quote
dlevens Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 Bruce, I took a look at your Spam Assassin document and had a question. You suggested that you change your default cpanel email to :blackhole: but then stated that when you got sites like miami herlod that you sign up as miamiherold@****** What I don't understand is how you get this email if you have your default address set to blackhole? Or do you have to go into cpanel and setup miamiherold to allow it through? The reason I ask is I have used a similar strategy for a few years now. I used to have a free hotmail account where I set the spam filter to exclusive (meaning only those on my contact list get through) then I kept my contact list almost empty. I then had my default email at **** to forward to my hotmail account and I allowed all mail coming from @**** to come into my hotmail account. This way only email from @**** would come in and NO email sent to my actual hotmail email was allowed. Since most spam was from hotmail anyway this cut down the spam about 50%. Then like you when I visited websites for bills, or general use I would put my email as thatcompany@**** I never had to go in and add those email address because all email sent to @**** went to the same place. I did blackhole the major magnets like info@mydmain.com and webmaster and sales etc. If I cut off that catchall email address then my work load goes way up as I have to add each and every company@**** that I use. ? Maybe I am missing something? Dennis Levens Quote
Deverill Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 Dennis, he is adding the "valid" emails as accounts. That's why he can delete that email address as an account and it's instantly blackholed. You could blackhole the catchall's here and let the rest through. In fact, that's what I do, but it doesn't help with oeuchroeu@**** which I am seeing a lot of lately. Isn't spam lovely! Yuck! Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 Actually no I don't create an account for it. I just create a forward to my regular account for any address I want to use. Then I can just delete the forward and :blackhole: takes over. You don't have to create an account to use an email address in your domain. Forwards do not need an account, just an address to send it too. Works great. Quote
dlevens Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 Hey guys, Thanks for the advice. I am still feeling out this webmail setup. So far it seems confusing with all of the folders that keep being created. It seems each account I create more folders are created and I can see the folders from other accounts that were created in each account. I am curious, does anyone use the default main email account, the random generated one that is also your login? I am trying to see how to even use that. IS the email address for that account yourloginid@******? Also how do you forward to that account? Do you forward to yourloginid@******? or just yourloginid or :yourloginid: ? I like horde for my webmail but I have 3 inboxes now, a few sent items, and a few trash cans, but I am not sure which folders I can safely delete. I plan on adding more email accounts for family members but I dont want them to see all of these folders and thus see my email, am I doing something wrong? Maybe I need to find a horde email 101 help guide to get me started. Dennis Quote
Deverill Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 Actually no I don't Sorry I misunderstood your method. (You gotta make yourself more clear, I say, more clear son. My brain's running around like a duck on a junebug. ) Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 (edited) I don't use the default account. That is the catch all account and the one that I have :blackhole: to discard anything I don't create an actual account or forward for. Jim, since I rarely use web mail and use a POP3 client I just create forwards to one account and I only have to pop one instead of multiple accounts. I do this for my personal accounts as well as my corporate accounts. I'm not really lazy, I just try to find the simplest methods to perfrom any task. Edited June 17, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
