caramezzo Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 I'd like to create a family website and I've never used a host before so... 1. Password protection - I only want family to be able to access it? 2. Can I use Dreamweaver? 3. Do you offer templates or ways to make this easy easy easy for me to set up? 4. Since this will be a long term thing...what's the best deal for the extremely budget conscious? 5. Any other thoughts as this is my first online endeavor (outside of classroom web projects) Any and all help is appreciated and I'm looking forward to working with you! Cara Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 Hi, Just a customer but i will try to answer your questions, 1) Yes 2) Yes 3) Not that i know of 4) Since you are only allowed to have one domain on a "normal" account, you will have to think about if its a "normal" account or a reseller account you want. 5) Browse around the forum first before you sign up and shall find answr to any question you might have. If not dont hesitate to ask. Quote
TCH-Don Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 (edited) Hi Carla, Welcome! If you have Dreamweaver, I think it has its own templates. There are many Dreamweaver users here that can help if you have trouble getting started. When you sign up you will receive a welcome e-mail that give you the settings for ftp before and after your domain name becomes active. And this will help to configure Dreamweaver to publish to your new site. And on the TotalChoiceHosting help site there is a page with more helpful information and hints for Dreamweaver including hints from our family members. In your welcome e-mail you will also get a link to access your web site control panel (cpanel) in there you can make a folder password protected, so you can protect your main public folder (public_html) or a folder below that if you want to just have a splash page and a link to the protected folder for family to click on. As to the best deal, the starter plan now offers 450 megs of web space and 10 gig of bandwidth (traffic to and from) that should be enough for most family sites, but if not you can alway upgrade to a higher plan. As Thomas said, if you have any questions, please ask, we are a friendly bunch here Edited May 29, 2004 by TCH-Don Quote

youneverknow Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 I too am a customer... the control panel is included in all packages...there you can create unlimited number of email addresses for you and each member of the family. It would be: name@yourdomin.com. This forum is a great place to get any help that may not be covered in the tutorials. This is a FIRST CLASS hosting company that cares about their customers. The service here is great. Welcome! PS: There is a Dreamweaver area in this forum for any of your Dreamwever questions youneverknow Quote
Minet Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 I'm really new here! And new to hosting a site myself, but no matter how trivial the questions I've asked I've always gotten terrific help from the forums people here. So don't be afraid of hosting your own site, if I can do it anyone can! This is really a terrific hosting site and I don't think I could find another like it if I googled til next year! Hope to see you've joined the family. Hugs! Quote
