Hi,

You were recommended by the person who is redesigning my site for me. I am currently using Miva Merchant, but after spending money on mods, I am still not getting my products indexed in google, just in yahoo, I believe anyway. My current host, who is not cheap by the way, does not support apache rewrite  . So this is my main question at this point. I will be using oscommerce, and I know there are ways to make it's url's search engine friendly, but I need the mod rewrite option. Even if it can be done with out it, I would like to have this option anyway.

Also, I know this has been asked before, but I need to ask anyway. Since my new site is being built with oscommerce using my current host. How much downtime can I expect during the switch. My domain name is with godaddy, if that helps any.

Thanks,

Cyndi

There is no way to guarantee downtime. It can be minimized by getting your account set up here as it is there and the changing DNS.

I use osCommerce on my site with the search friendly URL's just fine here.

Rob,

Do the search engine friendly urls work well? I've read with oscommerce they do. Miva, well that' a different story. Anyway, what mod did you use, I know there's a couple.

I do have control panel with the host I'm at now, Does that make a difference? I was just wanting to know about the downtime, so I could give my customers a heads up.

Which plan do you suggest. I have between 200-300 products I would like listed. I am just starting out, so I don't really have too many hits yet. Sometimes 200 visitors a day.

Also, how much time in advance should I set up the account, and start the process of godaddy pointing to you guys. You seem to have everything I am looking for :) .

Thanks in advance,

Cyndi

I found the MOD in the forums, it wasnt Ian's. and I use Lindas header tag controller. Gave me good placement in searches too. It works well, you can get an idea by clicking the www icon under my post to see how it works out on my site.

I had the beginner plan with over a thousand products and had plenty of room to spare, I was able to take about nine thousand visitors or so on that plan.

I say get your account here, set up your shop and get it going and then change the DNS. This should allow your visitors to get the same pages no matter if they are getting new or old DNS.

Rob,

That may be my problem. I didn't plan on switching hosts, because I had optimized miva, but my site person prefers oscommerce because of it's flexability. I have to admit it is really growing on me too. My new site is currently being built on my current host, so when I transfer, I will be transfering the site at the same time. It should be ready to go here in the near future, I hope. I guess with you guys being so reasonable, I should go ahead and set up hosting and when the time comes, move the domain name. What do you think? I'm one of these people that likes to have their ducks in a row, so surprises are very little.

That would line them up nicely so you only need one or two shots, it is the plan I would take.

Thanks,

I've signed up and awaiting the welcome letter so the site developer can transfer and continue his work :D . Can't wait for my new site and to leave my other host. I just spent another $25 to fix another miva bug, so can't wait to get rid of it too. Kept losing orders, ugh. Wish I could resell all the modules I've had to buy, but oh well, someone's making money.

Thanks,

Cyndi

Hi Cyndi,

I have miva merchant 4.0, I want to do mod rewrite on my site, my current hosting company does support apache rewrite "***********", so how did you do the mod rewrite in miva merchant.

They tell me that they are not sure miva merchant support mod rewrite, does miva really support mod rewrite, did you manually implement codings in miva files, or did you buy a separate program that is compatible with miva merchant, if so can you give me the software name.

thanks,

Lisa

Lisa,

I do not use Miva, however, I did some looking and it looks like you can use mod_rewrite with it. There should be no isues that I can find.
