Your freelancer must be able to see into the future since Joomla was not even born at that time. Nah, seriously... I would check in the joomla forum if anyone have run into this before, but my guess is either a corrupt cookie or log file. I haven´t worked with Joomla for some time now, but check if you can repair the log file or empty/replace it with a new one.

You should atleast upgrade to 2.8.6 since both 2.8.5 and 2.8.6 were security releases as I remember.

You don´t need to log in to the support to submit tickets. Just click the "Submit ticket" link. When you receive an email that there has been a reply to your ticket, you will need to log in though. In that email, the password should be provided. When submitting tickets, make sure to enter an valid email address that is not linked to your domain.

Welcome to the forum, clough. Have you tried it again after posting here. I´m thinking it may just have been a temporary server problem. If it still doesn´t work and you have not made any changes to the vbulletin files or your account in general, please submit a ticket with the help desk and ask the techs to look into this.
