How do I find out if I have suPHP installed? I'm on a dedicated box and I seem to recall support telling me it isn't on my machine. 755 doesn't work--I already tried it. However if the security risk is just about other accounts on the same machine, since it's my box and I know what accounts are on it that's not a huge concern.

I've had a custom PHP script written for me for a client's website. It has a flash uploader in the administrator's area and the developer has told me I must set my upload folder to 777 for it to work. These are JPEG files that get uploaded that need to be accessible as they are viewable from another separate page. I don't pretend to know a great deal about permissions but it's my understanding that 777 is very insecure...but insecure in what way, I'm not sure. I also seem to recall that 777 may not even be allowed on TCH. Can anybody help fill me in? I'm on a dedicated box if that makes any difference.

So I realize this probably (I think) isn't a TCH issue, but I'm stumped and want to see if anyone has any ideas. My suspicion is it involved MX records or DNS, so in that way it does involve TCH. I'm looking for a Gmail forum where I'll post the same question. I have two domains, zachrosing.com and homemattersllc.com that are using Gmail thru Google Apps. As far as I know, this isn't happening with any other domains. I've received some Hotmail's lately, and am replying to those people to have them test and see if it still works or not. The test account I just made (an @live.com address) did not work. I've found scattered reports of the same problem online but so far no answers. And since its affecting two of my domains, and I'm fairly certain this hasn't been going on for a prolonged time, something seems odd. Any ideas? Thanks Zach

I greatly appreciate the honesty here and the explanations for what has gone on. Carl Noonan was very helpful in getting my issue w/ the missing blog entries taken care of and thankfully that issue seems to be resolved. At the moment there are no other outstanding problems I'm aware of. Thanks again and yes, I hope its smooth sailing from this point on.

What is up with this whole Server 319 -> NewYork transition? Never before have I been the slightest bit nervous about the quality of service at TCH but I'm really starting to worry. The transition broke my custom MX records. Nobody told me before hand this would happen and I know me and some customers lost email because of it. Numerous accounts I had closed a long time ago re-appeared in WHM. Whatever downtime occurred yesterday made several of my webpages inaccessible for most of the day for many of my clients and I had to spend the whole day answering phone calls about it. And now a clients' very active blog has lost all new activity since October 3rd. Can someone please be honest and let us know what's going on, what didn't work right, and what you're doing about it? Maybe I'm overreacting, maybe this transition has been perfectly smooth for everyone else. I just know it seems like lots of things have been really flaky lately and I have some clients who will just go find hosting elsewhere if this keeps up. I've been using variations of the MSA form mail script for years. I need to install it on a new website and I'm curious what the current, modern, as-secure-as-is-possible-today version of this script is? Or is there a different script someone can suggest? I'm just looking for a PHP form mail script, free obviously, and it doesn't need any special features. I just want something that I can feel relatively confident won't get used by spammers or get my account banned. Thanks! Zach

I found this on A List Apart yesterday. It provides automated obfuscation of mailto links. You just install it (pretty simple) and then never have to think about it. http://www.alistapart.com/articles/gracefulemailobfuscation I don't know enough to determine how effective this solution is (there seems to be some disagreement in their comments) but I like the no-thought aspect of it. Note that if you download the zip, you have to fix several filenames--remove .txt from everything, htaccess is spelled wrong, and one file has a "," instead of a ".". Once I noticed all that it worked great for me! Zach

This has likely been asked in the past but I didn't see a response in my searches. First, is there some way to enable HTML emails in Horde that I'm missing? If not, as a semi-dedicated user, is it possible to turn it on for my account? Please please please!!!

A friend of mine was trying to email me and kept getting a bounce back. This isn't exactly a TCH issue (so if it belongs in another forum please let me know) but I'm hoping maybe some of you can help. Short version, I've moved shelteringwings.org to an Exchange server for email. Web is still hosted elsewhere. This is not a TCH account. I had set my MX record to the new IP, and most email sent from anywhere began arriving. When I emailed it from my TCH-hosted email address it didn't work immediately but after an hour or so everything seemed fine. Yesterday we changed the MX record to a new IP when a firewall/VPN was installed. A day later I am still unable to email the account, or email out to my personal address from inside Exchange. But others that I've tried (Yahoo, Gmail) are working fine and began doing so immediately. And nobody else in Exchange seems to have an interruption of email but I'm incredibly concerned that other people are getting bounces when trying to email in! The bounce I get back when emailing "administrator" at the domain I've mentioned above: >This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. (i've erased all the usernames from the email addresses in this post...) A friend of mine with an @sbcglobal.net email address is attempting to email one of my reseller accounts, newhopecc.net. He continues to get this error message bounced back: This has been happening for a few days now. It takes 24 hours for the bounce to come back. It happens on any email address he sends to on the domain, whether its one or many, real email account or forwarder. He is able to email me at my @zachrosing.com address perfectly fine, which is on the same server (319). He can acess the newhopecc.net webpage just fine. To my knowledge, no one else out there is having any problems but I haven't been able to find any other sbcglobal.net people yet to test it. I can pm you a test email account on the domain should that be useful to anybody in figuring out my dilema. thanks zach

My spam level has also greatly increased lately--it's not just your imagination!! I wonder if the spam is getting smarter and more is getting thru SpamAssassin. ?

Thanks for the comments. Remember though, the issue isn't me wanting to use ColdFusion, it's that I have a page that has been designed with it I need to find hosting for until I can re-do their page...

Ok I'm a little nervous asking this--before I do, I'm going to emphasize I'm a completely loyal TCH user and I'm not going anywhere. So there. Anyway... I have a client I want to put on my reseller account but their current site is using ColdFusion. They need to switch hosts soon, and I really want them to pay me for hosting but I can't redesign their page w/o ColdFusion for a few months at least. Can anyone recommend a reliable cheap company that provides it? They don't need outrageous space or bandwidth. Or... I don't know the first thing at all about ColdFusion. At all. Can someone give me a brief paragraph explanation about it, in comparison to PHP? I'm still waiting to hear what sorts of advanced functions they're doing on their page that warrants not using plain old HTML. Thanks, and I hope this question won't make anyone mad. Yes, we can access the site using /~username. I don't know much about DNS--what exactly do I need to do? Is this a problem with TDS, the registrar or somewhere else? zach

I'm a reseller on server 19. One of my users, newhopecc.net, has been having intermittent problems connecting this week. They are able to connect to all other internet sites, but nothing that is on server 19. The problem comes and goes--I was there wednesday and it wouldn't work one minute, and the next it was fine. (It always works fine for me on RoadRunner.) Just a minute ago when doing a tracert it would not even start, it said unable to find the host. Same thing with ping. When pinging the server's IP address it was successful though. I'm not at the location at the moment, so I had a staff member call tech support. They use TDS DSL in Indianapolis. TDS said that it was a hosting issue and they'd have to contact me. I really don't think this is a TCH problem (but could I be wrong?), i'm just trying to figure out what I've got to do to fix it. Hi, This might be old news, and I couldn't figure out the best spot for this msg, but if you get an email saying your recurring billing didn't go through when it should have, I just talked to 2Checkout and they said they are having problems with their system, it's not your credit card. They'll re-run it when they get things working. Just FYI....I was a little worried, thought others might be too. zach

I have a MySQL database that displays video projects on my website. One of the fields is "description" which is a text field. I'm trying to add a particular entry and every time I go back to edit it in phpMyAdmin, the only thing I see on the page is the title: Database zrosing_video - Table portfolio_videos running on localhost None of the buttons appear. The page has stopped loading. The source code of the page appears to have just quit, as if something interrupted it. My only choice is to remove the entry and reinsert it. But if I go back and edit it again the same thing happens. The entry works--the data is there and it shows up as it should on my website. When I delete the entry, it shows me the data in the form of mysql code. The entry has some HTML init but that hasn't been a problem up until now. This is the entry below. If anyone has any idea why this is happening please let me know. It's very frustrating not being able to edit this! Well, yes cPanel does support it--it appears as if it will let me do domain.after.domain.after.domain.zachrosing.com if I want to. It just doesn't actually work...
