I do not want to put php and mysql on my machine where i know i use localhost ii get that but the other posts i put in this reply show you can use localhost but thats not really the point. I have tried it all. If you do not know ok but please do not start with things that have already been shown to work. thanks Steve

I thank you for your replys. Rob its no so much about patience as about standard. I do not know if I have ever started a topic that i did not get anwsers right away, in that case 2 hrs and all the views at that time just seemed a long time. Besides, i did not say no one wants to help, my thinking was no one could. However i can say this is getting very confusing to me and somewhat conflicting info.I did submit a ticket and was told that no help can be givin on third party programs..ok but the tech did try and help nevcer the less.he said no localhost put in server name in this case sterlingsweb.net, i have done that so many times no work. Dick says no localhost but then also says that one can use localhost if the server is running mysql and php. It does not matter i have done all of it a bunch of times. Please excuse me if i sound rude. Do not mean to be but as i said this is getting to me and I do not see a end to this at this time.I really like TCH they have been good to me and this is not the kinda thing that will send me some where else. I did hook up once using localhost but that was it. I made some changes and went to the office and could not hook up. So I created different databases with the same error message. NORTK, I have the testing server in DWMX 2004 set up like you have said and it will even test ok there, but the same thing keeps happening. I don't know maybe its a bug with DW but i knida doubt it. WOW i can not remember feeling like i have been whipped.I first posted in dreamweaver of TCH about not being able to connect to mysql. Then i got it. using the % sign in access hosts of the c panel i was able to connect. I have tried to create more databases to use the tut. on breadcrumbs and can not hook up again. not to be confusing but here is where i started with my post. http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...showtopic=23172 If you would read my "Got it" reply and you can see i was off on my merry way. I did not want to get my real website mixed up with interakt tut on breadcrumbs so i was going to make a site called breadcrumbs. I defined a site called breadcrumbs. loaded the .sql that comes with the free ext., did all like before and can not hook up. Can i not make any site and database i want and be able to hook up? Ok here is what I did. In the mysql connection box you get in DWMX2004 when connecting to mysql i completed like this: connection name: breadcrumbs mysql server: localhost amf_xx password xxxxxx I then go to slect and then get an "can not find server again, and again. I created a user name, and assigned it to the database. I put the % sign in access hosts (that worked last time) but it does not connect. I also put in under mysql server amfmechanical.com and all kinda of other stuff. I have not put my ip address because it changes when ever i hook up to the internet at the office or at home, so I am not sure what to do there. I just do not understan why it worked one but not anymore. I tell you i have no t ever been so long on something as this. Oh well if you can help i sure would be greatful thanks beaten bad.... Steve

GOT IT.... man o man how nice. I just added the % sign in cpanel, then localhost in MySql server and boom. Thanks you 3 i got something from everyone. I read what you suggested grooveryfish and that really helped once again thanks.. Steve

No but i did read what was recommended and I added the % sign in cpanel under hosts, but this still does not do it. Also I have a changing ip everytime i sign on or shut down and i have an office i work form as well. So how would I be able to put in an ip where its been said to? thanks abinidi and groovyfish I have put that info in what I think my be wrong now is the MySql server: which is what dreamweaver asks. I still get the same error saying can not find server. MySql server: amfmechanical.com i tried ftp.amfmechanical.com and bunch of other ways. Thanks for the help and any more you may have. Steve

Strange I thought posted this yesterday but I do not see it. Oh well let’s go again. I cannot seem to hook up to mysql using dreamweaver mx2004. I go and create a database in c panel, fill out the right data (so I think) but the error I keep getting is that there is an ftp error because it cannot find the host server. I called the database mx_breadcrumbs called the user amf_sf and the password ******** I also added the user to the database. I have tried many different ways. DWMX2004 wants the: Connection name: breadcrumbs MySql server: ftp.amfmechanical.com User name:amf_sf Password:****** Database: mx_breadcrumbs so when I click test or select for database name I have been getting the error message can not find server. I think this is an easy one for those in the know. I have looked at it so long now I get brain freeze. I would really appreciate any help someone can give. Thanks Steve

well I am new to databases but usally can get done with what i am trying to do. I can not make a mysql connection using dream weaver and this hosting. I have a defined site called breadcrumbs. I have created a mysql database in cpanel, and a user also have added the user to the database. it looks like this: database name= mx_breadcrumbs, user = amf_sf password ****. when i fill out the dreamweaver connect to a database i use the following:connection name =breadcrumbs mysql server = amfmechanical.com user name = amf_sf user password = **** database = mx_breadcrumbs I have tried several different combos with these options but do not seem to get anywherwe. Can any one help? usally the message is that the host can not be found. Seems like an easy one but i don't know what it is.I am going home now so will not be able to respond for a while but please give advise.... Thank You Steve

I posted the post named pointing in this forum. I have been very busy w/ matters and did not get to say all that you guys did for me and say thanks like i believe one should when they are treated with respect and quickly as i was with TCH. I'll be honest sometimes I read some of the "thank you" in these forums and find some very hard to believe. Just so much ohhh and awww that I wonder. However when i needed some things addressed and other issues i did not know, TCH really came thru for me. One thing I like a lot is if it was a mistake on TCH part they do not hide it. They say ok and fix the darn thing. I have a company outside the internet world and being Responsible and accountable for our actions is very important and a corner stone in my business. So it is nice to know my hosting company feels the same way as there actions speak far louder than there words. Thanks again Steve

Ok OK well guess what? the dag gum thing worked after all. I think i was supposed to post that it did not work first as to make a ( out of my self. Now that task is complete it works like a champ./ I did see why it did not work here it is. Actually I can make it work just can not seem to get all the styles on the same .css. The items that make up the forums i.e the lines and images just do not show up. Hello and thank you in advance for any help. I think one of the reasons for .css is the clean code it can produce, and bandwith is can save by loading styles in an external sheet. I have the phpbb set up pretty much the way I want it. I will give you a brief descp. of what I did so as maybe someone can tell me how to clean it up. I moved some things around like where the login element shows up and did that by editing the index.php. I added the customer logo on there by editing the overall_header.php. In the overall_header.php are a lot if not all the styles that will show up on finished product. The overall_header has a little statement that reads as follows */ NOTE: These CSS definitions are stored within the main page body so that you can use the phpBB2 theme administration centre. When you have finalised your style you could cut the final CSS code and place it in an external file, deleting this section to save bandwidth. /* Well i thought the same thing, but when i use DWMX 2004 and create a new .css with all the styles mentioned for the main page and attach it to the overall_header.php i start to loos stuff. Like I keep all the colors fonts and styles. What I do not have anymore are the boxes and icons that goes with and around the forums. Now these settings are on the overall_header.php page down at the bottom. If I switch back to the orginal overall_header I get everything back like i like. In DW you can use the export css styles, and it lets me do this just fine, the prob. of course is that it does not get the bottom of this page and the forum loooks like po po. My qusetion is for you brave souls still w/ me is how do I clean up and get all the styles I need , put them on some kinda external sheet and use the actuall subSilver.css? On this ss.css i do not see the last of the items to make the borders around the fourms and the gif's that are also part of it. So how to make one .css to take care of it all? Hello, New here and new to BB's. I had IB up for a while messing with the settings. Lots of them. Looks like they want some money to upgrade. I wanted to look at the PHPBB, before i did anything. My prob is that I have been at work all day and am getting tired. I can not sign in to admin on the phpbb. So my ? is can anyone give me a start. Now i do have the admin text on the site, but it is not a link, come as just plain old text. I say this incase that is where one does access admin. If this is the case any ideas why i do not get a link on the admin text. This is the text next to moderator text which also come as just text for me. I will not be able to read any responce for a couple of hours as i have to drive from Tyler, TX. to Dallas, TX 1.5 hr. But hopefuly will see something when i get home. Is this for 1.2 and 1.3? What I mean is the 1.2 that I am now workig on with my new site a shareware? or is this with 2.0 and upcoming ver's. Its a good board but i do not want to pay 70 bucks evertime iu put one up. Thanks Steve

Hello, Just signed up with your service this past Friday evening. (10-15-04). By the time I got up Saturday morn. my new site was already to go. I mean i could even sign in and access my site, without using the temp IP address, thats very fast. !Thanks! I usally take things slow and have another site I am going to trans to this place. This is a good host really. I have looked around very carefully and feel like i made the right choice. You may not be able to help me here i don't know. I am at work, and did not copy my welcome E mail from you guys to bring to work w/ me. However I want to do some more work on my site and need to access cpanel. I know my ftp login but can not remember how to access the panel. Is it possiable that some one could clue me in. Any info that only I should know I know, just do not remember how to access this panel. Thanks for any help.. Steve
