Can I Password Protect Individual Pages?
JDanniel replied to JDanniel's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
I think password protecting a directory will suffice for me, for now. Bruce, thanks for the URL. I will not be able to study it in depth or test it for a day or two, but I'm glad there's an option to try. I'll let you know if it works, or how well. Thanks again, everyone. Jd -
Can I Password Protect Individual Pages?
JDanniel replied to JDanniel's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
I'll be darned if I can find anything specifically designated as Site Management. I see several rows of icons, and in the second row, I see an icon named Password Protect Directories. Is this the same thing as Web Protect? Bruce, why did Rob say it is possible to protect individual URL's? Was he mistaken? Jd -
Can I Password Protect Individual Pages?
JDanniel replied to JDanniel's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Rob (or anyone else interested in replying), I can't believe I forgot I posted this question. I just posted the same question elsewhere. I found an option to password-protect directories. This will work quite adequately for me. However, I did not find the Web Protect tool you mentioned. Is it something different? If it still exists as part of the control panel, then can you tell me where it is, please? And is there a tutorial for it? If so, where do I find the tutorial? Or, could you please post brief instructions on how to use it, to password-protect just individual pages or URL's? Thank you very much! Jd -
Can I Password Protect Individual Pages?
JDanniel replied to JDanniel's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
I have a question about password protecting individual pages or URL's. Cpanel has a tool to password protect directories. It's easy to use, and will be perfectly adequate for what I want to do. However, just out of curiosity: Is there a way to password-protect individual web pages, or individual URL's? Does the control panel offer such a tool? If so, where is it, and is there a tutorial available for it? Or, can someone post brief instructions on how to use it? I would prefer to password-protect specific pages, rather than entire directories. If that's not possible, then it's not a big deal--I can work with directories. Thank you very much! Jd -
Mailing List: Prevent Subscribers From Sending?
JDanniel replied to JDanniel's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Don, Thanks for that link, but the information on that page is not what I see in the Privacy Options of my mailing list controls. I do not see an option for this: Must posts be approved by an administrator? I do not see an option for this: Restrict posting privilege to list members? (member_posting_only) However, in the Privacy Options/Sender Filters area, there is this option: By default, should new list member postings be moderated? No/Yes Then, the next option is: Action to take when a moderated member posts to the list: Hold Reject Discard I'm assuming this is fundamentally the same thing. But really, I'm far more concerned about eliminating the aforementioned text (i.e. the text in bold in my original message) from the subscription page. Is there any way to edit that out? Even if I am able to moderate posts to the group and approve or reject them, I don't want the idea that it's possible planted. By removing that blurb, I greatly reduce, if not eliminate entirely, the possibility. Is there any way to modify the HTML code for that page, to eliminate that text? Jd -
I have a question or two about the Mailing List feature offered with my TCH account. I found the option for a mailing list in my control panel, and am in the process of setting up a new mailing list right now. After doing some configuring and tweaking, I noticed an area in the subscription page that permits subscribers to send their own mass mailings out through the list. I don't want that. I want only the administrator and/or moderators to be able to send out mailings though this list. How do I configure the mailing list so that subscribers cannot send out mailings? Also, how do I eliminate that section of text from the subscription page? I'm referring to this section of the page: Using List To post a message to all the list members, send email to ________________. You can subscribe to the list, or change your existing subscription, in the sections below. Or, am I misunderstanding how the mailing list configurations work? Thank you! Jd

Hi everyone. A very basic question about setting up an e-commerce shopping cart account for my web site: Forgive the ignorance, but do I have to apply to be a credit card merchant to use this tool, or is there a feature in the software that automatically processes the sale? Is E-Commerce PayPal-compatible? Can I use PayPal with the shopping cart as a means of customer payment? Where would be the best source of information regarding setting up such a shopping cart? Thanks everyone. Jd PS: I'd prefer to use PayPal, for simplicity's sake, and because we aren't talking major purchasing expenditures. I know some people aren't comfortable with PayPal, though, so I'm just trying to explore other options.

Hi. I have a very quick question about the e-commerce script. When a page of the catalog appears, a title near the top says, "Let's See What We Have Here." Is it possible to configure the catalog to display any text other than that? If so, where is the option to configure it? Thank you! Jd

Hi everyone. I've been using TCH for about a week now, and so far am very pleased with the company and service. I have a question about "hiding" or "masking" a page on my domain. Let me explain. I've created a web site form with Front Page 2003, uploaded it to my web site space, and have tested the form, all with success. I plan on having a few forms on my web site. However, I do not want some of the forms to appear on my domain. I'd like them to appear as though they are on some other web site space I have, such as AOL. Is this possible at all? The purpose of this is to create a web form that is linked to one of my AOL screen names, yet retain anonymity, since my domain contains my real name, which I do not want revealed to AOL users. Furthermore, I want the form results to link up to a database I may create in the future. It's not an earth-shattering event if this isn't possible, but if I can mask the actual domain name from view somehow, that would be great. Any tips on how to do this, or if it can even be done? Thank you! Jack D.

Hello. I'm interested in subscribing to a web hosting plan where I can house my tutorials and documentation for public consumption on a for-pay, subscription basis. I'd like to password-protect the material, and would like to know if Total Choice Hosting supports such a thing via HTTP in any way. Briefly, here's the scenario: Let's say I have 50 files, divided up into five folders. Each file would have a URL to enable downloading, i.e.: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/jd/folder1/tutorial1.swf http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/jd/folder3/tutorial34.chm http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/jd/folder4/tutorial47.pdf In order to access these URL's, the user would have to enter a password. Does TCH support something like this, and if so, how? Are scripts required, and if so, does TCH offer them? I currently have the files password-protected via self-extracting .EXE format, but I do want the option to password-protect the URL's in the future, if I so choose. Any feedback and advice on how to do this is welcome and sincerely appreciated. Thank you for your time and assistance. J. Danniel (please feel free to call me Jd.)
