Hi everyone. I was looking through my CPanel. I thought there was a hit/visit counter there, but if there is, I must have overlooked it. I'd like a visible counter on my web page(s), and not an invisible one that only I can see through CPanel. I know there are tons of counters out there, such as Site Meter and Extreme Tracker, but is there one available through Fantastico? Or am I just better off using one of the third-party counters already out there, such as the ones I mentioned? Thank you! Jd

Can you point me to where that option is? I went into Admin and there's a Permissions area with a Simple and Advanced Mode. I changed each forum section to Post/Reg and Reply/Reg. Is that sufficient? Can you please elaborate on what that is? Is the mod/post the same thing that I referred to above... the Permissions area with a Simple and Advanced mode? Thank you! Jd

Hi everyone. My PHP bulletin board is getting spammed. Every forum is getting the identical topic and message, with randomly-generated guest names. I had to delete each spam message manually. It didn't take too long, but if this keeps up, and gets out of hand, I won't be able to get rid of it all. Any way to prevent this, or, at the very least, limit it? Thanks! Jd

Hello. Somewhere on this board, I saw a message saying the PHP BB system is not secure, and that something else (I don't recall the name) should be used instead. Should I be concerned about PHP BB, and if so, how concerned should I be? I'm very comfortable with PHP BB right now, and quite frankly, would not be all that eager to learn a new BB system. Just out of curiosity, though...what other BB systems are available that are compatible with my TCH account? Are there any that would require a minimum of effort migrating from PHP BB? Or should I just stay with PHP BB, at least for the time being? Thank you. Jd

Hi Bruce. I'm probably using the wrong terminology. I don't want to delete a forum--I want to delete a topic within a forum. But it's okay, because shortly after posting that message, I found what I needed. When you click open a forum, and then click open a topic, at the bottom of the thread are four icons at the bottom left. They are: Delete Move Lock Split That's what I was looking for. I hope I used the right terminology...I do appreciate the reply. Thanks again! Jd

Hello. I have a PHP bulletin board on my web site, and would like a little bit of assistance with it, please. There is a topic in one particular forum that I'd like to delete, or lock. I know how to delete individual posts, but I've scoured the admin. panel for a LOCK feature or a DELETE TOPIC feature. I can't find one. Can someone please tell me how to lock a topic, or delete it? Wow... fast response....thanks! But about one minute or so after I posted this question, I found what I was looking for. I selected the Scripts Library icon, and there's a section listed as FORUMS. I clicked the option there, which is php BB, and everything I wanted and needed was right there. I deleted my board that way, and just created a new one, which I will start building later. Jd

Hi everyone. I'm a little confused about something. About a year or so ago, I created a PHP Bulletin Board. I'd like to delete this board, and build a new one from scratch. I'm able to access the Administration Panel for my board, but I don't see an option for deleting it. Also, I don't see an icon in the Total Choice Hosting control panel for creating a bulletin board. Unfortunately, I don't remember what steps I took last year to create this board. Which option in my TCH Control Panel do I select for the phpBB? Will that option allow me to delete the board and create a new one? One other thing: I noticed a blurb, saying my bulletin board software is outdated. My version is 2.0.17 and the current version is 2.0.20. If I delete this board and create a new one, will that automatically give me the current version? Thanks, gang! Hi everyone. I need a little help with the mailing list tool in the Control Panel. There are just a couple of things I'm not entirely sure of, even after reading the documentation. First, and most importantly, I want to set up the mailing list so that only I can send out e-mails. I don't want subscribers to be able to reply to each other. They can send replies to me, but nobody else. Is this possible? If so, where in the mailing list configuration panel can I make this adjustment? Also, I'm not entirely sure which e-mail address to use for subscriptions. I'm assuming it's the one I've created when first creating the mailing list, but I'm a bit confused by this. Can anyone help me with these two questions? Thank you very much! Jd

Never mind, I figured it out. Stupid mistake on my part. I realized each logged in user had to adjust the GMT setting via Profile. I was making the adjustment for the board in the admin panel. Jd

Hi gang. I just created a bulletin board at www.jackdanniel.com/board but am a bit confused by the GMT time zone setting. I've adjusted the time zone in the admin panel, but the board isn't displaying it correctly. It's three hours ahead, despite my adjustment. I've cleaned the cache, checked the board via a few browsers, but the time is still three hours ahead. Does the board time reflect GMT time no matter what? Or are the times for messages posted only? Barb, I have a client who's asked the same questions and is in a similar situation. He wanted to transfer his domain to TCH (upon my suggestion), but canceled his other web hosting account first. The transfer request was subsequently rejected, and he didn't know what to do. I came here, to this forum, to research the problem, so what I think I'll do is see what replies are posted here, and see what happens. Can TCH unlock your domain for you, if you canceled your other hosting account? That's what I'd like to find out. Or, will you have to uncancel your other host to unlock the domain? I'm curious about this. Jd

Rick, No, I don't think that's the problem. I wrote a one-sentence index.htm file just as a placeholder. I have written nothing with frames, nothing with a toc.htm file, and nothing with a home.htm file. Just a simple, one-line index.htm file. Hi everyone. I created a new folder in my public_html file, and added an index.htm file to it. When I try to access the URL, I get the following error in MIE and Firefox: The requested URL /videodvd/home.htm was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. The left pane is missing the toc.htm file. Why is the browser looking for a home.htm file? Are your server upgrades affecting my site? I am on server 63. As of noon, Saturday, Feb. 26, I have not received any e-mail notifying me of server upgrades. Only after visiting the TCH web site did I find out major upgrades were in progress. I'm not sure I asked the question correctly. Let's start from scratch. I know how to delete folders and files; I've been using WS-FTP for years. Let me rephrase the question: Let's say, for the sake of discussion, I go into WS-FTP, access my web site space, and try to delete absolutely everything there--and I mean EV-ER-Y-THING. Will absolutely everything be deleted, or does TCH freeze certain things, preventing them from being accidentally deleted? If not, then ff everything is accidentally deleted, how is it restored? I'm still not sure if I asked the question adequately. But I do NOT want to selectively pick folders/files to delete. I'd rather just click everything and see what is deleted and what stays. I don't want to try doing this until I get feedback from you. But is that possible--select absolutely everything and have only what I put there deleted? Jd

Hi everyone. I have a very basic question. Let's say, for the sake of discussion, I have a ton of folders and files located all over the place in my web site space. Let's also say I just want to dump the whole darn thing and empty it all out, and start from scratch. Let's also say I'm too darn lazy to go through everything, to see what I need to keep in terms of essential TCH folders/files. Is there a way to nuke everything in my web site space in one fell swoop, yet leave the essential folders/files (i.e. CGI-BIN, etc.)? Or are you going to tell me to get off my lazy duff and go through the folders? Seriously, if there is a way to globally delete all of the material I uploaded to my site, leaving the essential material put there by TCH in the first place, what is it? Thank you! Jd

I just checked my control panel, and yes, I have the 850 MB. I've probably had it for a while but never paid attention to that stat...until now. I won't take that for granted anymore. Jd

Hi everyone. I'm just a little unsure about something and am requesting clarification, please. I'm on the Silver Plan, for $5.00 a month. (I'm 100% satisfied with the service and features, by the way.) When I signed up originally, back in April, 2004, if I recall correctly, the Silver Plan offered 500 MB of web site space--more than enough for me. I was just checking the web site plans, and noticed the Silver Plan now offers 850 MB of space. Can anyone please tell me when the extra 350 MB of space was added to this plan? And does it apply to subscribers who signed up PRIOR to the increase? In other words, as a Silver Plan user since April, did I get the increased amount of space as well?
