I'm currently looking for a web host and I thought I've found the perfect one when I checked out TCH. However, one of my must-haves is SSH access (Jailshell is fine). Some reasons are e.g. :
- For security reasons I will NOT use a protocol like FTP, POP3 etc. which send passwords as clear text over the net (and maybe even worse over internal LANs at work or at home (tenant-owner's association)).
The cPanel File manager is nice for quick changes to a small number of files, but it is not a replacement for a SCP file tool or something similar.
- I want to be able to (safely) transfer files like backups etc. directly between web hosts (not by FTP for reasons described above)
- I want to be able to fine-tune scripts, databases etc. from the command shell for both installed scripts and for my own development projects.
You folks at TCH seem very dedicated to security which I appreciate since it is also a great concern of mine. Do you not think that forcing your customers to send their login/passwords in the clear is a potential security risk for both us and yourselves?
The idea of a developer account sounds great, but I would like to see some dates, requirements, features, prices etc. as I will have to decide on a web host pretty soon.
