I am not using a firewall. I tried using spybot on another computer (both have XP operating systems on it and cluttered with spyware). On this one, i did not delete the n-Case files and the same thing happens. I have an internet connection (connects to aol and other programs requiring internet connectivity), but when i go to view a website, I get an error message: you know, cannot find server. the white page that tells you to refresh..or check the internet options I'm seriously stumped! Any help would be great. Sam p.s. - TCH - Lianna, I do not know how to use DOS on windows...can you explain?

I've only been running Spybot - Search & Destroy..... I don't know what to do about the internet. I have tried everything I can think of and no pages show up. I do have Kazaa on it....should I uninstall that? Also have AOL 9.0. I have heard of many people having problems with it, but none like the one that i'm having. Regular explorer and aol both don't work on the system. -Sam

ok...so this is bordering on qualifiable (is that a word??)....What about Aon Flux (from the MTV cartoon)? I mean...all she did was kick some @$$ and was wierd sometimes.....any thoughts?? bye the way....Betty Rubble = REAL HOT but let's not forget Pebbles (when she was older of course!)

One more question..... there was a set of files called n-Case that came up unchecked when I ran Spybot Search & Destroy. The description according to spybot is that it probably won't make a difference if I remove them or not. Well, upon removing them, I found that no pages show up on explorer or america online. Every time i go to a site, i get a message saying, can't open search site. I used the rescue option and undeleted all of those n-Case file thinking it would fix it, and it did not work. All I get is that same message and the typical "can't access the server" message. Again, I've checked the internet properties and the connection and everything works...what should I do?? Mad!!!

Thanks again for all of the resources.....One quick question. When I used spybot, a lot of files entitled Back Web lite. Should I get rid of those. I am not sure if it will damage the system if I get rid of them. Thanks Again! Sam

Thanks for the link Don. I noticed that if you want to send a donation by mail, you should send cash and wrap it up in tinfoil?? Isn't that wierd? I guess they must have a lot of problems with people stealing cash in germany. Thanks again. Sam

woah woah woah....I think we're overlooking two major cartoon babes.... The Little Mermaid (I mean a sea shell bra???) The girl from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame (gypsies are always hot!) As to the fact that Holly Wood wouldn't qualify.....I agree with TCH-Mike. Cool World was only PG-13....the same as Rogger Rabbit.....Let's compare apples to apples here Naughty (guys I apologize....i'm a HUGE movie and cartoon geek) :Nerd:

So I'm working on a computer that is infested with spyware. I downloaded a spyware detection program and it has identified all of the files that contain spyware. In order to delete those files, you have to purchase the other half of the program for about $29.00. I really don't mind paying this, as long as it works and takes care of all of the problems. My only concern is that with spyware, people can monitor your actions through the computer and can get your credit card number online. Is there any other place where I can purchase something to get rid of spyware? How much should I pay for a decent program? Thanks guys.

I don't know if this is the right place to write, but I'm having problems with some images on my webpage. Upon loading the images through my FTP, i got a message saying there was an error with the FTP....error 533. It said the image was not there or did not exist. I checked my public_html folder and the images are there....Also checked the image path and it was correct. I don't know if there is something I missed anything or if there is just something there that I am missing......any suggestions?? the two pages that i'm having problems with are: www.venuechicago.com/fOdyssey.htm www.venuechicago.com/fCite.htm thanks guys

I have learned so much in the short time i've been with TCH. Keep up the good work guys. Thumbs Up p.s. - If anyone is going to participate in any type of thanksgiving turkey bowl game (football), make sure you are in semi-good shape. I haven't been able to move for about a day and a half!!

Scott Sorry I didn't answer right away. Thank you very much for your advice. Although I don't have an access to that file, I wrote my teacher an e-mail and asked her if she could redirect the page. Thanks again! Sam

Ted, I not only copied the meta tags...I also added more, changed the description, and also repreated more target words like venue chicago and event management and stuff. Here is the url that comes up when i search "venue chicago": That is my old website. As you can see, it is not as professional or good looking as my new one! www.venuechicago.com TCH-Scott: What do you mean that having duplicate content can get me in "trouble". Do you mean legal trouble? How do I go about putting a permanent re-direct on my old site? Also, I will join the family. It is a great way to showcase my site. Thanks for the information! Thanks for your input guys! Rock Sign Edited: Removed the link. Google scans our fourms quite often and you don't want it to see yet another link to the old site. - TCH-Jim

First off, I would like to thank TCH for all of the wonderful tutorials on promoting your website. I'm pretty new to web development and I have learned so much from them. Of course, when you learn something, more questions come to mind..... I recently made a website for an event planning company named Venue Chicago that specializes in event planning. I have tried to follow all of the guidelines (to the best of my ability) in promoting my site. Here's the funny part.... When I was in school, We had an assigment to creat a website for some business. I decided that it would be a great time to make a prototype of the website I wanted to build. After getting permission from the owner of venue chicago, I created a site and put it up on our school servers. Now, whenever I search on Google for venue chicago or anything related to that, I find that I get all of these links to the "old" website (school).....I mean i'm talking like top 10 results (one was even #2!!) I used the same meta tags on the new website as my original website (the one for school) and included some more that would help out. The real website hardly comes up in any searches! I have two theories on this.... One of them is that the the website I created at school is linked to that class' webpage(the one that I had the assignment on). Students from that class visit it every day for assignments and stuff. Since my original website is linked to this page, does that help the page rank? The other theory is that I recently (after reading the tutorials) made a lot of changes to the meta tags and description in my index page of www.venuechicago.com. So the google spiders might have not picked up the changes in the monthly search. My problem is that I really don't want to put a lot of links to other websites on my site because they might lead business away from the company..... Any thoughts? suggestions? p.s.- sorry about the leangth, but i've been doing a lot of thinking....

Turtle, Thank you so much for all of your help. I posted the GuestBook that I made at www.venuechicago.com/vcGuestBook I made that change that you told me on the header.php I changed the web address to "http://venuechicago.com/images/cloud.gif" and nothing showed on the background....(not even on the border). Any suggestions? Once again. Thanks for everything! Sam

I have Norton as well on my home PC and I love it. Is it still as effective for a network? I'm still new to networking so I was wondering if I have to install the firewall on each computer or just on one.
-
I have heard overall good things about the Linksys routers. I myself purchased a router from Best Buy about 2 weeks ago (although it wasn't wireless) and made a network for a small office. They are very easy to set up and so far, there have been no problems. Security is an issue though. I am currently looking into putting in some sort of firewall for the network. Any ideas? I have a small budet so the cheaper and easier to use the better. Thanks!

Hey guys. I am on server 40 if you want to take a look at it. I have mostly used Dreamweaver as my ftp, but I also downloaded SmartFTP. I am not to familiar with it so I don't know how to change the permissions. Can anyone help me out? Sorry I'm being so annoying about this. Just trying to learn Naughty Thanks
-
Still having problems with the permissions. Mad!!! Went into the file manager on cpanel and changed it to 777. After I press "change", it goes back to 755. What's up with that? I went ahead and edited some of the things that you told me about. (Just clicked on the file and pressed edit). I don't think i'm doing this right, but I don't know where to test it. Is there any way I can see this without going live with it? I hope i didn't bite off more than I could chew....

Having a little problem.... I am using Dreamweaver and am not exactly sure how to change the permissions for the template files. Any suggestions?

Hey Turtle. I apologize for not following up earlier, but I have been out of town on vacation and I completely forgot about my question. Anyways, I've been playing around with the different settings and I have 2 questions: 1. How do I go live, do I just place a link to the folder or url in which I have stored the guestbook (www.venuechicago.com/vcGuest)? 2. What can I change as far as the templates go. I am still learning about programming, so I am afraid of messing something up. Is there anything that needs to be changed before I go live with it? Thanks.
