  1. Just wanted to thank you again, Don, for your help figuring it out. For anyone else wondering, it was the missing semicolon at the end of this line: ><?php require_once('/home/cpaneluser/safe/config.php') Working fine now.
  2. I'd just like to add a small correction that TCH-Don just helped me figure out. In posts #3 and #17 above showing how to keep the config.php file safe, the line >require_once('/home/cpaneluser/safe/config.php') doesn't have the ";" after it, which was something that a newbie like me might not know to add. Hope this helps someone like me who's lost!
  3. Here are the only lines above line 28 (except for the script license info) ><?php require_once('/home/cpaneluser/safe/config.php') and of course I have replaced cpaneluser with my actual user name. Double-checking, that definitely should be the right path. Could it be something in the first line of the config.php file, which is ><?php include("/home/hxdnooj/safe/config.php"); ? Or could it have to do with permissions on one of these files? Thanks for any pointers you can give me in the right direction
  4. Thank you, Don! Bear with me, though: Now I get this error when I go to mysite.com/stats: "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF in /home/cpaneluser/public_html/stats/index.php on line 28" Here is what line 28 in index.php says: >if (!isset($PHP_AUTH_USER)) { I know almost completely nothing about php, so I can't tell what's wrong. Thanks
  5. It worked - thanks so much, Bruce! Now I have another question about the "for more security" part...well, more than one. When it says put the config.php file outside the Web Server path, does that mean just put it in the same directory as the public_html folder is, but not in the public_html folder? And does it mean just the config.php file or the whole stats folder? Then when I add the line ><?php include("/home/cpaneluser/config.php"); ?> do I change "cpaneluser" to my cpanel username or the one I created for the client? I guess if I understood the concept I would know that, but I'm still really fuzzy on this stuff. Thanks for any further direction you can give!
  6. Okay, I must be really thick, but I read the whole thread here twice, and I don't understand how you edit the config.php file. Obviously, I must have to change something below >$username = "user"; /* used to access this utility */ $password = "pass"; /* used to access this utility */ $site = "yoursite.com"; $cpnlusername = "cpanelusername"; $cpnlpassword = "cpanelpassword"; ?> but I don't know what or how. Can someone take pity on a beginner? Thanks!
  7. Okeydoke, I will do that. Thanks again to everyone.
  8. Thank you all for your replies. I did try choosing "I am a new customer," but put in all my business info, and that's when it said I couldn't use the e-mail that belonged to an existing account. Maybe I'm just a dimwit - what am I not understanding here?
  9. Hi - I have a very small web design business. Right now I have both my own site and one client's site hosted at TCH under separate accounts. I will be hosting more sites at TCH (because you guys are the best) but I don't have enough business to make it worth a reseller plan. So if I want to set up a separate account each time, how do I do that when it tells me my e-mail address is already in the system? Some of the ones I will be setting up will already have their domain name registered somewhere else, and some I will buy from TCH, if that makes a difference. A related question is this: Is there a link somewhere to log in to whatever account I need to at the time? I sure can't find it, so I don't know how to get in there and make changes easily. Thanks!
  10. Wow, that was weird. Just as I submitted the above post, my e-mail started coming through. Whew!
  11. Thanks very much, Rob. If it doesn't resolve by morning, I will do that.
  12. Hi everyone. I have 2 sites hosted with TCH: one is on server 36 and the other on 105. I got an e-mail a week or so ago about Server 63 Migration, and it says "Your account resides on one of these servers so we wanted to inform you with as much lead time possible." Question 1: Why did I get that if my 2 sites aren't on that server? Question 2: If I indeed do have something on that server, is there something I need to do? Question 3: I haven't been able to get my e-mail for most of the day from my account on 36. I found a discussion in the forums about it on January 6, but I'm afraid most of it was over my head. Is there an ongoing problem with that server or am I experiencing a fluke? It occasionally happens that my e-mail program can't connect to that server, but it usually resolves itself in an hour or so. Thanks for any help you can provide!
  13. Thank you all; I appreciate the confirmation. Boy, a person really has to be on her toes these days with all this fishy stuff flying around cyberspace! Gets pretty tiring. But thanks again for your help!
  14. I got the e-mail message below, and from searching the forums I suspect it is just one of those virus/spammer things since I don't have an info@burke-design.net address, but I thought I'd better check in case it's legitimately from TCH somehow. I have not changed my password recently as the message claims. Is it fake? Dear user laura, You have successfully updated the password of your Burke-design account. 15. Well, I haven't been able to accomplish this despite Don's valiant efforts to give me step-by-step instructions. (Thanks so much, Don, for giving of your time!) I may open a ticket just to give it one more shot, but then I'll let it go. Thanks, TCH, for being so willing to help greenhorns! Rock Sign
  16. Well, the first time I upgraded (using new name of advancedguestbook, which I guess was my mistake) there was something in the dropdown box. Now that I'm trying again, there isn't. There were only 3 or 4 entries I would need to keep. So obviously, this is not a terrible tragedy if I lose them. I would like to save them, but I won't ask anyone to go to great lengths for them! Thanks for your help.
  17. I upgraded with the cPanel link, but I had named it /advancedguestbook this time instead of /guestbook like last time. So I removed the new and went back and tried to upgrade again, this time using the same name, but it keeps telling me I need to specify the directory and I can't see a place to do that. The place to the left of the box that says "upgrade to 2.3.1" is a dropdown box with nothing in it. Sorry to be such a pain.
  18. Thank you guys for your suggestions. I have upgraded but I still can't figure out how to get my old entries into the new guestbook. I backed up my database, installed Advanced Guestbook 2.3.1, and then went back to upload the database. It expands a file named agbook1 but I don't know how to get that back into my guestbook, sans the offending entries. I am too dense, and I don't understand the instructions in the thread Thomas referred to. If you're not too sick of this topic, could someone give me a tip? Thanks for your patience!
  19. Thank you, Mike, for answering. I will do as you suggest. I may be back with more questions, though - fair warning!
  20. I have Advanced Guestbook installed on my site, Burke Design. Right now the only way to access it is with the above link, as I have rerouted my index page guestbook link to a temporary "I'm sorry" page because of the problems. Over the past few weeks, I have been getting several entries a week from people usually with hotmail addresses, just short snippets that don't even always make sense, and it's obvious these aren't just normal entries from people who visit my site. Somebody's up to something. Now, as you can see, it's really messed up and I don't know how to fix it. I have tried to delete the offending entries but can't. I have put as many IP addresses as I can into my ban list, but that doesn't seem to be very effective. Do you have any idea what I can do to regain control of my guestbook? Thanks!
  21. Thanks, I appreciate your help!
  22. Hi all: I opened a support ticket with TCH to cancel and get a refund for a domain transfer that never took place due to my current registrar denying it. This is the reply I got, but there is nothing on it that shows it's from TCH, so I was afraid to respond with my credit card number. (I know it's only asking for the last 4 digits, but if this is spam from someone else, I don't want to give them even that much!) I asked for confirmation but never heard anything back. Can someone from TCH please help me out and tell me if this is from you guys? It would be nice if something in the message said TCH; I can't be the only person who has been confused by this. Well, maybe I am, who knows. Anyway, I would like to get this straightened out. Thanks! Laura
  23. Thanks again, everyone. I have e-mailed them twice with no response whatsoever. They're probably putting it off until the last minute so that I am forced to renew with them. You can bet that if I can get out of there, I will never use them again. Thanks for all your help! Laura
  24. Thanks so much, everyone, for your input. I did check out the contract, which does say Whether it said that when I signed up a couple years ago, I don't know. I will readily admit that I didn't read the fine print at the time. Forgive my ignorance, but do the guidelines on icann's web site (which didn't mention the 60 days) override the wording of individual registrars' contracts? However, the current registrar also says that even if it's eligible for transfer (in other words, if I had initiated this more than 60 days prior to expiration) I still would have had to pay the $15.00 processing fee and renew with them. Again, I have no way of knowing whether this is what it said when I originally signed up. So, I'm up the proverbial creek. I suppose I don't dare let it expire and then immediately grab it again through TCH? Is that too risky? I certainly don't want to lose my name. My other option is to just renew with them forever and ever. But in that case, would I get my $10.95 back from TCH? I'd really rather give the money to you guys, but I don't seem to have much choice. What should I do? Laura
  25. Hi all. I wonder if anybody has dealt with a similar problem to mine. My domain name is expiring on April 6 at another registrar. I signed up here to switch it to TCH, where my site is hosted, for convenience's sake. My current registrar denied it, listing a bunch of hoops I have to jump through because of the possibility of fraudulent transfers. They say since there are fewer than 60 days left to expiration, I not only have to renew with them first for no less than 1 year, but I also have to pay a $15 processing fee to transfer the domain. In addition, I have to send a letter of intent, signed and notarized for pete's sake, via snail mail! I initiated this transfer when there was still 3-1/2 weeks to go. Shouldn't that have been enough time, for one thing? And what's the deal with having to pay triple for what should cost $10 or $11 total - the renewal fee with the current registrar, plus the $15 processing fee, and the $10.95 here? This is ridiculous. Please tell me that not all domain registrars are doing this now. And do you have any ideas on how I should handle this? If push comes to shove, I'll just have to renew there and keep it there. It's not really such a problem to have it separate from my TCH hosting, but now as a matter of principle, I want to move it all the more because I think they are basically extorting money from me! Sorry for the long-winded post. I'm just a tad steamed. Maybe I should go dunk my head in some ice water.
