Mike The site uses no php, but lots of cgi, including database programs, csv writing cgi programs, etc. In some cases I found attempts at accessing formmail, in all its variances (formmail is not used on the site) and attempts at entering the cgi calendar program login. I saw no instances of wget, though I may be missing them from viewing the logs. What they did was installed another index page in the main public directory. They could have done more if they could have. I am not fully knowledgeable in protecting against this stuff. Any additional comments would be appreciated as it is a school website, loaded with informational data. Thanks! Jim

Thanks for the reply. Based upon the web logs, seems there are several nasty people trying to get into private areas of the website. I am adding 34 IP's to the denied access list in hopes it makes them leave the site alone. Plus I will be keeping a closer eye on the server logs. Admin password has been changed with numbers and letters. I am always appreciative of the prompt support from TCH. Jim PS - They left a website URL in the logs, with their latest hacks posted. It can be found at: http://www.zone-h.org/defacements/onhold

One of my client's websites was hacked over night. There is no obvious file vandalism, though I am doing a review now. I am wondering how to best find out the IP of the hackers (if that is even possbile) and is there any way to prevent this in the future besides periodically changing the master password? Thanks! Jim

I have a client who just signed up with TCH. She owns a small business that offers self-improvemwnt classes for a fee and wants to make on-line registration possible via her new site. She would like to know if she can use the TCH shared SSL to process the charge card registration info to an email address, then use webmail to collect the registration info to manually process the charge through her business merchant account. I know SSL encrypts the info between the browser and server. Will she be able to read the encrypted email info once it is on the server? How would this work best? Thanks for the feedback.

I already have six sites at TCH. I am working with a high school to move their website (hopefully to TCH); however, it stuck me that their domain "name" is not the typical one (www.xxxx.k12.oh.us). Can this domain be pointed to your DNS and hosted like the more common ones? If so, any special requirements or notes when ordering the hosting account? Thanks, as always, for your fanatstic service and support. Jim

As I have posted here before, finding a reliable webhost has been a learning experience for me. My latest issue with my former hosting company has been they charged my credit card for hosting I cancelled (and they acknowledged cancellation). This is the second time it has happened in as many months. Now I have to file for another refund. Ad to this, the weekly website reports of site uptime: former host averaged 92% uptime, TCH sites have been 100%. All but one of my sites have been moved over to TCH. They work as they should, no problems, no downtime and for the price of hosting, it is a humongous value. Thanks, TCH. I am glad I found you.

Keep Up The Good Work!

Mike Good customers help make a good community; however, it is the attitude of TCH that fosters the positive environment, too. I can only speak for myself: when you have a hosting company that provides a HUGE value to its customers in hosting packages, answers questions with respect for the individual, addresses problems quickly and THEN explains "why" something didn't work, it brings about a loyal following. Communication and respect go a long way to keeping customers. TCH has fostered a climate of friendship, respect and value....it is truly an oasis on the "world wide hosting ocean". Thumbs Up -
My Experiences With Tch
jim_bob45506 replied to jim_bob45506's topic in Reviews of TotalChoice Hosting
Point on wasted money well made; however, as I think about the value received for the money paid...include my frustrations, calming clients when their site is down...you get my drift. True to form, Jim sent me a message telling me they were behind in setting up new accounts. Email arrived soon afterwards. Site is uploaded and working fine. That is peace of mind...can't place a $$ amount on that. TCH is an honest, caring company, who doesn't make excuses. They provide exceptional service, support and website performance at a cost that is fantastic. I am very happy to have found TCH. -
This is my second posting...my first being an inquiry before moving my first site to TCH. I own two websites and manage 6 sites for clients. I have been around a while now, experiencing lots of different web hosts. Their home pages all sing their praises so how do you know until you commit? Most often, you can't unless you do your homework, and then it is still a risk. My first website to be hosted on TCH was a client's site. I ordered the starter package, received payment confirmation in 3 minutes and the welcome email in 6 minutes. I had it uploaded and the DNS changes made in 15 minutes! "Wow", I thought. This was a great experience. Everything worked like it should. I ordered my second starter package for another client. 26 hours passed and still no welcome email. I opened a ticket with customer service and boom, I had the welcome email, with their apologies. I jokingly told them that the first experience I had with TCH was hard to beat...they had me spoiled. Yesterday I ordered my third starter package for one of my websites and the same delay has occured. I have sent another email to see if my welcome email was sent. One thing I have learned is: never assume an email arrives when it is sent. Now what does this mean? The two websites on TCH are working far better than on their previous hosting company. I have paid 10 times the monthly fee to a hosting company and received no better performance or support. Trust is tough to earn and easy to lose, unless communication exists. I have no concerns with TCH or about moving all my sites and my clients' sites to TCH. I have wasted lots of time and money to find reliability, customer service, high performance and uptime in a hosting company. I have found a home for my sites and my client's sites...I just wished they had not spolied me on the first order....and that I had found them sooner Thumbs Up Thanks TCH!

Multiple Domain Names To One Site
jim_bob45506 replied to jim_bob45506's topic in Pre-Sales Questions
Thanks! Some hosting companies charge extra to do this. I can see why TCH is rated so highly. -
I have performed a quick forum search and did not find this topic. I manage multiple web sites. One client has 3 domain names for one account (.com, .net, .org) to protect his business name and wants the three versions to find their way to his site. Can 2 additional domain names be parked to one website account on TCH? [i see that one additional name can be parked (by opening a help desk ticket).] If 3 names can be "pointed" to one site's root directory, is there any additional fee for this? I am considering new webhost companies to recommend to my clients and this is one issue I need to resolve. Thanks for your reply.
