thanks Bruce i think I will pursue this on the grounds that if I had signed up I consider that I would I would have fallen foul of the "small print" from their website. This i can not see as being fair and equitable in any court. In the event of having to pursue this in the US could anyone advise me of where to go pls? Thanks

Thanks Steve I have dozens of .co.uk and have to date never come across this before with any of them (even though all are registered with my full contact details). Given that it has existed for years I take it that it is legal then? I am considering whether or not to contact my local tradings standards office in the uk but think they will fob me off and pass the buck given that the company is not uk based although the return envelope has a uk address

just went to their site and they CLAIM to offer 5gb of space and 100 emails addresses with the registration for as long as you stay with them. I though I would pretend to reister a random series of letters.com only to discover that that charge for pop mail boxes!!!! on top of that it looks as though you have to pay a surcharge if you have less than two years left till you need to renew with them. Does this mean that if you take up their offer but go for less than two years you are liable? "All domain names registered, renewed, or transferred with $$$$ after March 1st 2007 at $$$$'s regular price will qualify for this program. Any domain names transferred over to DROA during their registration period must have no more than 2 years left until expiry in order to qualify. (example: if today is January 2007 your domain name cannot expiry any later than January 2009). Any domain names that have over 2 years left on their registration period may be subject to a $15.00 per year additional fee at $$$$'s discretion. (example: if today is January 2007 and your domain name expires in 2010, $$$$ may charge an additional $15.00 on top of your renewal fee)." I do feel sorry for newbies taken in by these companies. am I allowed to mention them. Dont think i have said anything libelous but I am not a legally savvy.

Hi all I have posted this as a new thread even though I have noticed a thread just below regarding wider registration issues. If this has been covered then sorry. i received a letter yesterday from a company posted from NY reminding me that my .com, registered at the same time I opened my reseller acc here, was due for renewal. On reading it my eye was drawn to the nice blue boxes on the page that covered the costs and then the bit where I put my cc and sign. Had it not been for the fact that prices (£) are even higher than the UK then i probably would not have read it more clearly. On doing so it becomes obvious that it is another firm trying to poach me from you. They refer to the privatisation of Domain Registrations and Renewals and to be fair don't use small text and do mention that by agreeing you will be switching. I personally find this objectionable but i must admit that had the prices been similar to yours i might have accidentally signed up. I do consider the letter to be misleading because of my own failings, ie. i scan though post rather than reading every word. I am sure though that it is perfectly legal ,unless advised otherwise. I guess that the firm is taking advantage of the industry wide standard of not reminding users to renew until 90 days before hand- in this case mine is due 16 july. Had I fallen for it then part of the blame would be due to the lack of linking between domain reistration and hosting at your end. I love hosting with you but hate the fact that registrations and hosting are different, with more usernames etc to remember. I hope that when i am due to renew for the first time the email reminder has the link because I cant remember what it is. thanks daryl

Fro what I have just read in the above posts it is evident that Don was extremely popular, and thus greatly missed. Although he had helped me on a couple of occasions I was not privileged enough to know him sufficiently to call him a friend. That was my loss. His passing is all of our loss. To his friends and family- my deepest sympathy.

hi all the tchstatus.com site is down also wondering if you need to update the name servers for domain names registered with other reg.s when you guys moved us from server373 to palpatine? only asking as only one of my client's sites is timing out. all the others are fine. have raised a ticket but not sure if the response here might be faster. client grumpy and i am on site with out my laptop(read:passwords). there's a moral there somewhere... ta daryl

thanks bruce. will do- sorry wasn't sure where to look as the daily uptime report showed nothing. From your link i can now see the reason for the brief downtime. Am now subscribed and hopefully wont need to ask silly questions again. cheers

Hi all Wasn't sure where to post this, hence it's here. Got a phone call earlier from a client to tell me that the site I am building for him was not accessible (about 12 hours from this posting- sorry uk based so i get muddled when playing with US time). From what he tells me it was down for at least 30 mins but might have been longer. How can I check retrospectively??? Also confused about the fact that my reseller acc is on server 373 but in his c-panel it says palpatine, is this normal? Thanks in advance and a further tahnks for the service that i have received thus far. Daryl Ps is it true that i can move my acc to UK based servers through you lot ?

Fantastico Is Unwell
imaginary number replied to imaginary number's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
you are quite correct. thanks for the pointer. will deal with it when i get back later. cheers daryl -
hi there just created an account http://www.iforgottosay.com/~deanb in whm haven't got round to pointing the url at the name servers yet. went into the new account as root in cpanel and uploaded gallery2, then extracted it. once extracted i went to the directory and discovered that it just spews code at me so i decided to have a butchers at fantastico. "Fantastico is unable to connect to your MySQL server at this time. Please contact your host for assistance." Are the two related or are there certain things that you can't doo as root. Cheers daryl

Cant Find Mail Servers
imaginary number replied to imaginary number's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
you're right- what a donkey i am. i forgot that the domain name wasn't registered through tch. so even though the site hosting worked the mail didn't sorry... by the way is it possible in cpanel to forward an email to more than one recipient? thanks again -
Hi all, having a problem with the mail servers on one of my domains. mail forwarding/ webmail works but i can't access mail via outlook- can't find mail.bichonhotel.co.uk nor can i ping it. still relatively new to whm and had assumed that it would auto set the mx records. initially mail 14400 cname bichonhotel.co.uk. bichonhotel.co.uk. 14400 mx 0 bichonhotel.co.uk so i changed that to mail 14400 a 72.18.159.73 bichonhotel.co.uk 14400 mx 10 mail.bichonhotel.co.uk. what am i doing wrong???? thanks in advance.

thanks Andy, Started cleaning them up. naively hadn't realised that although dreamweaver defaults to transitional xhtml doc type, the code snippets that it generates is not compliant. resolved the initial problem by removing center from the tables with css. now i have to eliminate the problem of using input in forms..... oh well it keeps me off the streets. ta

Hi all, I have an intermittent problem that i have only noticed post migrating to your servers from the UK. When i load http://www.paradise-cove.co.uk/photos.htm I sometimes find that the container shifts to the very bottom of the page such that only the top of the scroll bar is visible. A window resize resolves the problem... i didn't notice this prior to migration but cannot see how this can be the issue. I guess ie doesn't like my css- firefox is happy. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

hi all sure this has been covered before but was hoping that something new might be doing the rounds. the webmail progs in cpanel are far from user friendly and i was wondering if there was a superior alternative. my limited experience of horde drives me up the wall. i have a reseller acc and want to give users a nice simple url and interface. any suggestions? thanks in advance. daryl

hi all thus far i have been pleased with tch. intially i was concerned about opening accounts with a US firm given that i am UK based. i started off with two basic hosting accounts and now also have a simple reseller acc.- cunning sales on behalf of the staff in the forum me thinks- but it was what i needed (as they stated in the forums). only gripe is the need for numerous passwords/usernames with regard to the admin side of things and the whole registering domain name pain thru secure thingy.com- quite off putting happy to recommend you. thanks Daryl

opps sorry- re point 4- given costs, until i make make money from the reseller acc i was thinking of the simple acc. Where can i find a list of the differences between each type??? the link http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/web-hosting-resellers.html makes them all look pretty much the same bar bandwidth and capacity. -

Registering New Urls- Very Fed Up

thanks andy et al and hi, if i do opt for the reseller account are there any caveats I need to be aware of??? (or any hidden costs) 1.Will I be able to forward urls with masking eg site1.com translates to whatever.com/site1 such that site1.com/page1.htm points to whatever.com/site1/page1.htm and the url shows as site1.com/page1.htm 2.will i be able to have pop servers for any url i am paying for even if they are registered else where. 3 how seemless will it be to transfer the two sets of space i have with you into a reseller acc. Can i stop paying for them as soon as i start paying for the reseller account?? 4. will i be able to setup my own name servers eg ns.mysite.com? 5 slightly off topic but given that i have space in the uk and usa is it possible to set sites as mirrors so that if one iserver is slow the other one can supply the files eg uk server for uk requests and usa for usa Thanks in advance -
hi all i currently have two hosting packages here with two associated urls (one of which is www.iforgottosay.com). i had assumed that i could register a new url (www.sknb.co.uk)- park it over one of my doamin packages and then set up mail servers, and a couple of pages, through www.iforgottosay.com/cpanel. this is something that i have done seemlessly with other domain companies. thus far i have been told that i have to pay $20 to buy credits and change the dns server to ns39.domaincontrol.com and ns40.domaincontrol.com and then to change the total dns settings (not told what to change them to). i have done step one- now sknb.co.uk points to godaddy.com ??????? thought i would just copy the settings for iforgottosay.com but it just says that the site is not hosted here ??????? i understand that even the most simple of tasks can be made complicated but this is starting to take the biscuit. my emails from support seem to be circular in nature- pretty much pointing me to the same faqs and providing the same response. could someone please advise me as what to do to be frank $20 to do this is not much more than the cost of yet another domain package- but if i went down that path (not something i really want to do at the stage) would i still have to pay the $20 (none of the other firms have charged me to do this). hither to i have been happy with this company but this experience is making me regret not going to one of the other companies that i use (which would have been marginally cheaper in the short term and possibly much cheaper in the long term if i have to cough up $20). Thanks in advance Daryl
