puffinn Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 I'm looking for a better antispam program than I currently have. It's a real pain to have to change account properties to use these pesky loopback pop proxies. I'm going to have to install something on three more computers using outlook and I'm not looking forward to it. Is there no snapin for outlook that will give me strong antispam power? no, I don't like the default antispam tools from microsoft. thanks Quote
Deverill Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 Check out a product named SpamBayes - it uses Bayesian filtering and snaps right in to Outlook. I use it at work but I don't get much spam there so I can't say how good it is. It is easy to use though. Hope it helps! Oh yeah, if you do end up with a proxy program, K9 is the best I've found. LisaJill Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 You can also enable spam assassin for serverside filtering. I have that enabled and k9 and I haven't had a spam email get through since I moved to TCH. My spam box (I check it with horde to make sure it doesn't catch good emails) gets about 160 emails per day..... So I'd say it's fairly effective. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 Same here, I use spam assassin on the server side and k9 on my machine and I went from 300-400 spams a day down to 20-30 a day (slipped by spam assassin) that k9 filters directly to my deleted folder. Lisa, I used to check the ones it was catching but it never caught a false positive in 3 months so now they are just discarded at the server and I don't bother checking any longer. Quote
Deverill Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 Bruce, What is the filter-activation score you have set for Spam Assassin? Did you leave it the default 5? I bumped mine to 4 and set it to add **SPAM** to the title just in case. I don't recall any false positives... every **SPAM** that gets into K9 is really spam. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 Jim, it is set at the default 5. It seems to be working very well. Quote
