TCH-Thomas Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 I am trying to update style sheets in ipb and ipb tells me i have to chmod /css and /cache/css_7.css, but server will not let me do it. It tells me this 550 Could not change perms on /public_html/forums/cache/css_7.css: Bad file descriptorServer does not support attribute modifications Failed [server does not support attribute modifications] why? TCH-Bruce Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Thomas, when are you getting this error? When trying to update (save) the changes? Have you changed the permissions of the cache folder (777) and the .css file (666) before trying to update? You need to do this temporarily before making the changes and then change them back. If file manager or your ftp client won't allow you to make those changes please open a help desk ticket and have one of techs have a look. You should be able to change perms on those. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted April 23, 2004 Author Posted April 23, 2004 (edited) I did my changes in css, clicked the update (dont remeber the word it said right now). It told me i had to check chmod for /css and /cache/css_7.css. /css went fine (was gonna temporarily change to 777) but css_7.css refused to change from 644 to 777. I´ll try in a little while again. If its not working i submit that ticket. Edited April 23, 2004 by Jikrantz Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 The file doesn't need to be 777 it should be 666. Read/write for everyone. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted April 23, 2004 Author Posted April 23, 2004 Now Im really lost. I submitted a ticket, copied what i had posted here (lazy me ) and Jacob answer this: You are not given shell access on our servers. Hence you cannot run this command. If you want kindly let us know. We will have it changed. Also let us know what ownership you want to give and, the file name. Thank you. Please let me know if I could be of any further assistance Is shell access what i need/want? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 No, you don't need shell access to do that. Just reply to the ticket and tell him you cannot change permissions on the file you are trying to chage permissions on. Are you trying to change them with file manager or an ftp client? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted April 23, 2004 Author Posted April 23, 2004 FTP. I did reply asking how I can have changed css folder but not the file. Waiting for answer from them/him. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Thomas, I am curious. What version of IPB are you running? I have 1.3 installed on my site but there is no "css" folder. I have a "cache" folder. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted April 23, 2004 Author Posted April 23, 2004 (edited) Version 1.3 And Im sorry, I did a typo, I ment cache not css. Edited April 23, 2004 by Jikrantz Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted April 23, 2004 Author Posted April 23, 2004 Hm, Jacob answered right after i had made my last post. He says he can change without problems, so it looks to be a problem with my computer/ftp i think. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Hmm, got me here. Could it be an ownership problem. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted April 23, 2004 Author Posted April 23, 2004 Jaocb got it solved. Here´s his reply Could you please check it now. The file ownership was set to user nobody. We have changed it to "edited out", Which is your username. Kindly check it out and let us know. Please let me know if I could be of any further assistance Now i just wonder what he mean with "ownership was set to user nobody". I thought all files in there was set to same person/owner? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 They are supposed to be but it's possible when you installed IPB it created the folder with a different owner. Shouldn't have, but looks like it did. Glad he sorted it out for you. I thought it was an ownership problem but I couldn't figure out how to get my CuteFTP configured to show me the owner value. So for that you would have required shell access which you do not have. Quote
